All of the new toshiba HF and HFX series HDTVs support 720P input and upconvert them to either 540P or 1080i and they do a great job of it. Quality control of the early batches of the 30HF84 seems to be bad though.
Well, I have now noticed a cropping issue in 1080i mode. The player actually cuts off around 5% of the top of the picture on 1:85:1 aspect movies in 1080i mode. The picture is perfectly centered in 480p mode though so it is an issue with upconversion between the player and my Toshiba 57H81 HDTV...
Well like many others I decided to try the Zenith DVB318 out even though I own the Panasonic RP82 which is a reference 480P DVD player. I have been extremely happy with the RP82 with all types of DVDs and transfers, but I wanted to try a good upconverting player with the Faroudja deinterlacer in...

I compared my XV-SA70 to my XV-S500(Same Pantera II chipset as SA600 minus DVD-A)and the VIDEO mode looked the same to my eyes. Then I woke up and bought the RP82 and compared it to the XV-S500 in video and film mode and sold the XV-S500 immediately because it wasn't worth the upgrade over my...
I would say the RP82 wins hands down against the JVC for pure progressive and interlaced PQ. If you want to really see the JVC's get blown away, try playing a progressive video DVD like Ice Age and compare the JVC and RP82 side by side on a progressive display. The RP82 will have a much more 3D...
RP82, XP30, or XP50 would fit your situation perfectly. Don't waste your money on the Denon if you don't need the Burr Brown DACS which have been said to not sound any better then the RP82/XP50's. If you don't need DVD-A I would highly recommend the XP30 since it is same video internals as RP82.
I have excellent cables service via Cox here in Oklahoma. They have redone all of our cable lines with new fiber optic lines and it shows via analog and digitable cable PQ. I switched from Dish Network to Digital Cable and the Digital Cable blows away the Dish Network PQ on my 57" HDTV. I was...
Does anyone have a source to buy the new Scientific Atlanta 4200HD HDTV cable box from? Here in Oklahoma Cox is has started our HDTV cable service, and say they only support the POS SA3100HD that doesn't have zoom/scale features like the SA4200HD does. If they support the SA3100HD, why wouldn't...
There has been a lot of questions whether or not the Panasonic XP30 or XP50 play VCD and SVCD properly. If you own either a Panasonic XP30 or a XP50 dvd player, please go to the following links below and burn the VCD(with chapters),CVD,and SVCD(with chapters)samples from vcdhelp.com and report...
I would consider them as horizontal white lightning flashes that wuld roll from bottom to top. I don't think you can even see them on your 20" via composite output. Try hooking it up via Component to a 27" TV or larger and see if you see them in darker scenes. Sounds like you have a different...
Timothy, That looks my advice that I gave you a while back that you quoted. ;-) Everyone please try what Tim just quoted me telling him, and it will be very noticable and distracting if your unit has the problem. There are more and more people getting these bad units, and some have gone...
I saw the flashes during disc loading on the main Panasonic title screen, during playback on darker scenes, when playing a mp3 cd it was really bad on the Panasonic title screen, and when changing discs etc.
My wonderful rolling horizontal band flashes on both CP72s I had weren't caused from an external source's ground looping. It was caused from an internal ground problem on the video outputs that was most noticable via the component output. I am hearing more and more people notice this problem on...
Just watchout for the rolling horizontal band flashes on the CP72. Also get some magnifying glasses to see it's LCD display. :-) Other then those issues it is an excellent player and deal.
I will second the awesome sound and possibilities of DTS 96/24!!! I too own the Queen DTS 96/24 DVD-A running through my RP82 to my Sony DA4ES which has onboard DTS 96/24 decoding. The sound on my 7.1 setup will blow you away in the DTS 96/24 5.1 format. Sound much better then the 24/96 MLP 5.1...
I have a Toshiba 57H81 and when I use it's excellent zoom modes to correct non-anamorphic or 4:3 DVDs I get no more visible scan lines then I do without zooming it. If you have an HDTV with decent zoom modes, you won't even need the scaling therefore you can have the superior RP82 PQ in all...
There is always the CP72(Exact Same Video Section As RP82) though which is actually cheaper then the RP82 after Mail-In Rebate and is readily available. :-)
The RP82 isn't at the top of the DVD Player Shootout list for nothing!!! It is almost impossible to make the RP82 hiccup on improperly flagged material therefore making it have the best overall PQ with all content over the JVCs. I notice a HUGE difference in PQ between the RP82 and JVC when...
Not a surprise to see the $200 RP82 at the top of the list even over higher overpriced models. The RP82 was the best DVD player purchase I have ever made, and I am just glad I got one of the last ones because looking at the cheap price of the new Panasonic models I am afraid they might not have...
Doug, You are the first person to actually prefer the JVC's progressive picture over the RP82. On my Toshiba 57H81 57" HDTV I compared the JVC XV-S500BK(Same Guts as SA600 minus DVD-A)and my RP92 and CP72 head to head. The RP82/CP72 had a sharper, more color saturated, more 3D looking PQ then...
The CP72/RP82 play VCD, XVCD, SVCD, KVCD, MP3, and WMA flawlessly and I know this because I have played them on both. They also play all recordable DVD formats including DVD-RAM. When doing player functions there is only a small dark blue background with white text foreground logo on the upper...
TommyL, From what I have heard the RP82/CP72/XP50 have a much more superior PQ(3D, sharper, better colors, No Flickering because CCS is OFF) then both RP56 and RP62. If you can get your hands on the RP82 or CP72(5 Disc Changer Version Of RP82) I would try them out because they offer a better...
