DVI/HDCP will likely be required for HD-DVD, pay per view HD and the ability to record HD. Anything broadcast free OTA (ie. CBS's CSI) will not be affected. Cheers, Sean
No, you can not send two different signals through the A/B speakers, but you can play the same source at the same time. Take a look at this link: http://www.soundandvision.netscape.c...aid,190,00.asp Cheers, Sean
I would do exactly what Colin said. Make a list of what you need/want on your receiver and select the model(s) that fit your criteria. I only suggested the pioneer and panny over the HK because of the component switching. In terms of which one sounds better is up to you to listen to them and...
If the HK 110 is an entry level model, it likely does not have component input/switching, although I can't verify that. I know the panasonic and the pioneer do. The remote on the panny isn't great and it doesn't have pre-outs so upgrading with an amp is a no. But, the panny will work fine with...
Does your powered sub have a line in/out connection? (push tabs or posts for speaker wire) If so, you don't need the sub out. Connect your sub to the receiver via the left and right main out to the line in connection on the sub. Then connect your left and right mains to the sub via the line out...
This is another good link regarding this topic: http://www.polkaudio.com/home/faqad/...cle=bassmanage Info from the LFE channel in a 5.1/6.1 setup is not lost if the sub out is not used. That information is redirected to the mains or whatever other speaker is set to large. The alternative...
As outlined in the shootout introduction here: http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volum...ut-1-2003.html no audio performance is evaluated. Video performance is their main objective. Cheers, Sean
The mpeg decoder will also play a large role in the PQ of the player.(see rp62 vs. 82) Also things like CCS (cross colour saturation) will make a difference.(again see rp62 vs. 82) Cheers, Sean
I have the same receiver you do and it's not the receiver but the DVD player. I'm using the rp82. I had the same result with the Matrix DVD and a few others. I can advance the film using the chapter skip but can't manually select the chapter by number using the key pad with either the receiver...
I wouldn't say Panasonic's remotes are difficult to use, but they do suck!!. The buttons are small as is the writing but all the necessary buttons are there. I usually only use the remotes on setup, after that I use the television's "universal" remote for volume, RR, FF, etc. I really enjoy the...
Polk RM6700 series and you could probably upgrade to the PSW404 subwoofer all for under $1500. Nice review at cnet.com. The LSi series are nice but can be pricey and more than likely will go over you budget with a subwoofer. MRSP are listed on www.polkaudio.com site.
Cheers,
Sean
I'll plug the polk sub. Very nice budget sub that has no problem filling a small to medium room. I would prefer the PSW404 over the 20, but the wife has spoken. Cheers, Sean
Your settings are similar to mine except for picture and sharpness, both of which are turned way down. My picture setting is 12 for two reasons. One, paranoid about burn in and two, whites just bloom when any higher, especially in a movie like Minority Report or during CBS HD sporting events. I...
The 82 only comes in silver, no black. Debating on whether or not to keep the 62 is not a decision someone else can make for you. My advice would be to purchase the 82 from a store that has a good return/refund policy and compare the two players on your television. If the 82's picture is that...
Both players have a zoom feature but only when set up for a 4:3 television. And no, zoom does not mean scaling. The picture from the 82 is slightly better because of a higher end MPEG decoder. Cheers, Sean
Yes, watching regular cable in 4:3 is a concern for burn in. Just hook your box up to the television using the S-video or composite cables so you can use your stretch modes on regular cable. Cheers, Sean
I think this set is great for the price. Supposedly, the picture out of the box is better than last years. As stated, if you can upgrade to the rp82 try and do so. Picture is better than the 62.
The flickering is your DVD player. As above, make sure your player is set for 16x9 in the setup menu and use the full mode for anamorphic (enhanced for 16x9 televisions) DVD's. Cheers, Sean
The rp91 has scaling which is not available on the 82. The 82 should produce a slightly better picture with anamorphic dvd's as a result of the sage/faroudja de-interlacer which is not present in the 91 (91 uses genesis de-interlacer). MPEG decoders are identical in the two players. Cheers...
The 82 has the same mpeg decoder as the 91 but it also has the better de-interlacer. This will likely result in a slightly better picture. But as you said, the 91 does scale which the 82 does not. If this is important to you, the 82 does have a time remaining feature. Cheers, Sean
I don't think you can say all sets will convert a 720p to 1080i. I'm pretty sure the panny won't. The conversion has to be done in the HD box. This could be the case with many sets. Cheers, Sean
The television itself, as far as I know, does not "upconvert" 720p to 1080i. Someone correct if I'm wrong. That conversion would happen in your HD box. Cheers, Sean
