Lexicon LX-7 vs Bryston 9B/4B SST

If your looking at the bryston price range. Really consider the Simaudio home theater amp offering. The Titan. At least give it a listen before making your decision, it's good enough to warrant a mandatory listen if your in that price range.

Energy Veritas and Totem same store in GTA?

Totem can be found at American Sound. They don't carry the Energies I believe.... Generally try to listen at a place you'd consider buying, and if you want to deal with Bay Bloor, go in with prices from other stores and ask for similar deals, at least that way you offer them a chance of earning...

    the "NUANCE EXPERIENCE"

In all fairity, the sales attempts are goofy and underhanded but the speakers aren't all that bad. I've got a pair I had "discounted" from 2000 to 800. I also have a pair of Tannoy D700's, a Musical Fidelity A3Cr amp and pre. I tried using them for mains instead of rears once for fun. They don't...

    Bryston 9bst vs 9bsst=worth the extra $?

Well if it helps the 4bst -> 4bsst made a significant difference to my ears. I haven't had opportunity to compare the 9's

    single CD Player suggestions

Hello, Even though you don't like sony, I still have to suggest that the CE-775 model can still be found in some places, it happens to play SACD's but it's about the best value for that money. Although you might also want to consider the pioneer dvd 656A, I liked it's CD audio better than the...

    Speaker Stands?

Not all tweeters are designed to be put at ear height. Take the Gershman Avante Guarde's for one.

Speakers dat don't get no love ...

Mike Haven't had any complaints so far. Of course haven't needed any customer service. Got me a pair of D700's that do just fine thank you. What are you running? Something from the dimension line perhaps?

Speakers dat don't get no love ...

I love my Tannoy's wich get little love here in Canada. Other great companies with little press .... TOTEM (Mani-2 SE) Silverline Audio (Sonata) Gershman (Avante Guarde) Theil (3.2) Energy (veritas 2.4's) KEF (20?) Merlin (VSM/TSM) Meadowlark (Heron i) Coincident (Eclipse)...

Line Conditioners, Please help me pick one.

To answer your questions directly 1) Not all line conditioners are designed to protect against surges in power (the audio prism 3 by PSAudio is a conditioner which does not have built in serge protection) 2) I am really not qualified to answer this and would rather not give you advise other...

Excellent point Chu, but out of interest did you then go to hear what the other cables did or just walk out at that point thinking it was all snake-oil?

Shion's method of fine tuning stereo speaker placement

Hello All, Thought I'd share my method of placing speakers. This is pretty vague and general and assumes you've got a pretty good position (start by using the method described on the cardas webpage) and want to add the final touches. Buy, beg or borrow one Miss Saigon CD. Take the first disk...

    Lines on t.v.

I got lines when I used my audio interconnects from my DVD player to my TV. When I switched to the yellow video connects they ceased. Are your tributaries actually video component cables or did you get two audios and a video?

So for all those copper is copper believers

Well at the risk of becoming audio flame bait I'll have a shot. One day I was looking for speakers. I had gone to numerous places and thought I'd try one in London that sold Von Schwiekerts the VR 4 I think. I sat down and auditioned it and agreed with the salesman that it really could rock but...

So for all those copper is copper believers

Just a quick question since this seems to be the dominant view on the board and I would appear to be the minority... For those of you who believe there is no difference, have you ever, just for the sake of argument, gone to a high end store, listened to say a pair of B&W 803's...

I can't see the differece, can you see the difference?

Any ideas on what the difference between the following models is ... Sony Wega KV32FV300 and ... Sony Wega KV32FS100 That is aside from the $400 difference in price tag. Thanks for your help.

Help me cure my slight hum problem

The Accoustic Research Master Series are the best cheap (ish) well sheilded cables I've seen. Pick up a pair from futureshop, if they don't fix your problem you can always return them. Another important hint is to arrange your layout so that your power cables and interconnects run perpendicular...

It's almost that time of year again...

I would consider the Sony CE775 if you are looking at that range of price. The 775 plays SACD's as a bonus and if you do a look at the reviews on A.R. their were some complaints about the quality of the HK unit.

DVD player with 'DTS' logo on it but cannot *play* DTS

I had an HK 320 and a Pioneer DVD 440 for my HT part. Being a 2 channel guy and having an aversion to manuals, I couldn't figure out how to get DTS to work, kept not making sound. I finally figured it out when watching Jurassic Park 3. Not only do you have to select from the DVD option menu the...

Toughest speakers to set-up well in a room?

I've got this BOSE home theater system, man that thing is so hard to setup. No matter where I hide those little cubes it always sounds exactly the same.... like I spent too much ; )

Toughest speakers to set-up well in a room?

I'd say the Martin Logan stuff wasn't exactly a piece of cake. The aeri...s's can sound pretty anemic if done wrong. Rear ported stuff is harder for walls. Some of the NHT is quite sensitive to Wall proximity. Gershman Accoustic Avante Guardes and Nuance speakers ; )

    Best Component < $100 (1m)?

Hey Chris, To be helpful and on topic I have the following to say. I've heard the belden 892... jobs that Rhino sells, they do fine. I own a pair of audioquest corals that I payed much less than half price for just to see what the hype was, they do fine. I have a pair of the accoustic...

Help with my ideas for a system

Oh Yeah, I'm a big fan of my HK320 which does surround and multichannel just fine, even not bad on stereo. Since they are now just becoming "obsolete" due to the 325, you should be able to pick one up for 720 or so Canadian (like 10 cents US). I'm not sure what the price of a Dennon 1803 is...

Help with my ideas for a system

Zach, The S28 II's are the bookshelf version of the studio series. On their own they do an impressive job as front speakers in an HT setup and with a sub you'd get everything they were missing. I meant for you to consider replacing the N38's with the S28's. This allows you upgradeability of...

Help with my ideas for a system

Hello Zach, Since you have a Sub, you may want to consider getting the JBL S28 II's. This way if you want to upgrade in the future you can move them to rears and have quite a decent quality rear channel. They do an excellent (cost considering) job for front speakers and you may find if you...

    panasonic rp82 vs rp91

Hello Sanjay, I am currently auditioning the RP82 at home and am not impressed with it's sound quality. Given the choice i'd probably rather the Pioneer 656A (which I did an A to B with) However neither was sufficient for what I'm looking for in a CD player. I figured having the DVD-A and...

DVD-A question, using it with DAC

Hello All, In an effort to improve upon my source I was considering a DAC, however I noticed that with the new SACD format it would be useless as SACD doesn't play digital out. Anyone think this will change in the future? Does DVD-A differ in this regard and can DVD-A play an enhanced 2...
