I have a Hsu VTF-2 and it is excellent. As a matter of fact it is a bit overpowering for my system and I have to turn it all the way down. If I turn it up it actually makes all the walls shake and I have to rehang my wife's stuff afterwards. One other drawback is the size, it is quite large...
Great response. I understand it a lot better now. I still have my Subwoofer a lot louder than the rest, but I just turn it all down on the back. I thought my DVD was screwed up. Also hooked up the optical cable, but need to check to see if my settings are correct. Watched Reservoir Dogs last...
Is the coax cable superior to the RCA cables I have hooked up right now?? I figured 3 wires was better than 1, so I used those. I am looking forward to getting home and messing around with it now.
Right now everything is hooked up with cables. Would switching to the optical cable improve this any. I know the DVDhas an optical output, and the reciever has an input, but don't want to buy the cable if I dont have to.
I have been looking at the Bravos' for use as rear speakers, but have shied away because of cost ($400 per pair). I did check them out at Ultimate Electronics and liked the sound. One thing I noticed was that there was almost no hiss when nothing was playing, but the source volume was turned up...
I have an issue with my system. My Yamaha reciever sounds fine with the volume set at -55 for music and CD's. When I switch to the DVD I have to jack the volume up to -25 for normal viewing, and all the way to -14 or so for real effect. Anyone have any idea why this is so. Do I have an...
I have a HSU VTF-2 that I really like. It is actually a bit too much sometimes and I have it turned almost all the way down. When I turn it up the bass becomes overwhelming, and I have to re-align the pictures ohung on my wall because it shakes the house so much. Many others seem to like the...
Opened the sub on monday, found the problem and sent the woofer to Hsu by FEDEX. Less that 48 hours later I have recieved a brand new part, installed it, and all seems well. I will give it a workout tonight. Hsu customer service has been top notch.
Mystery solved (I think). Sub evidently took a hit in shipping and woofer is blown. The speaker fabric does not move in and out easily because the magnets partially separated from the speaker and the whole assembly now has a slight cant. That also explains how sub would only come on at certain...

OK, I just did a swap test with test subwoofer. That one ran fine. Sounds like the main speaker is blown. VERY ragged bass that cuts in and out randomly, and sounds horrible. No crossover to speak of. Hsu doesn't respond until a certain point, then it comes on in a big way. Sounds like a...
Good point on listening to stuff. 10 years ago I bought a pair of Bose 10.2 (yes, Bose, I know what you are thinking) based on listening to them compared to about 15 other models. Back then I knew NOTHING, not that Bose was good or bad, just bought what I liked to hear. While grossly...
Just picked up a spare subwoofer from a friend. Will plug it in and test it out when I get home. Should be able to tell if it is the sub or the reciever settings based on component swapout. If it works, then the sub is bad, if not then I have a reciever/settings problem.
I have the mains set to small, the LFE to both mains and subs, but I cannot find a setting turning LFE on or off. Would this be a separate control? To top it off I cannot find the manual for my reciever to work through the menues. I know the sub works because it will make sound (really badly)...
Just got my new (used) Hsu VTF-2 from a HTF member. It appears to be in good shape, but I cannot get it to work. I tried a subwoofer cable straight from the sub port (reciever) to the RCA port on the sub. Nothing. Not even a hum. I tried cables running from speaker output to sub, then...
I was going to use these in the back, but would consider using a set of 4, along with a suitable center channel for all round speakers eventually. They will be coupled with a HS VTF-2, so low range performance isn't critical. I currently own a front and center set of speakers (a 10 year old...
I have narrowed my choice of rear speakers down a bit. Currently I am looking at the Boston Acoustics "Bravo" models as my #1 choice. They are $200 apiece, but sound good, are white, and fit in a corner spot I need to mount them in. The #2 choice is the Polk Atrium M45's. These too sound decent...
Make sure the LFE is set to on, otherwise the signal doesn't go to the subs. Based on what I (think) I know, the crossover knob determines what level of signal the sub gets. Most main speakers are good down to 60hz or so, the sub should get everything below that. Mess with it until it sounds...
I just purchases a HSU-VTF-2 sub to handle the deep bass for my setup. I was going to add some small Boston Acoustic Bravo models as my rear channels (mainly because of size, although they sounded fine). Question I have is since I have a sub, can I ditch the large, utterly mediocre Bose 10.2...
Ghosting comes from projecting a static image (like a logo) on a screen for too long. It looks like a ghost image, but you just need to put the screen on full white for an hour or two to burn it back out. Nobody using video should ever see burn in.
I have a similar question. I have a DVD that is acting up and was thinking of replacing it with a progressive scan unit. It outputs to an XGA-LCD projector. Is it wothwhile to use a progressive scan model, or will I see no extra image quality
I have a Sanyo DVD player that has been giving some problems. I notice some de-synch between the audio and video (most noticeble in "The Quiet Man", almost a 1/4 second video lag). I had it hooked up with standard RCA cables to my Yamaha reciever (Audio). Also tried running video straight to...
As best as I know the HSU can be hooked up 2 ways. The first is by regular wires from each of the reciever's speaker output (and then each cable extended out to the L/R main speakers. The other way is with the standard RCA plug into the back (from the LFE/subwoofer output on the back of the...
Good stuff, I just bought a Hsu VTF-2 and am looking forward to it arriving. I was wondering how to hook it up. I was planning on the LFE hookup, but will that play music properly, or just 5.1 sources.
Thanks for the info. I loved the way they sound, just wanted an owner's experience. They also fit in nicely with the room decor, very unobtrusive. Now I need to find them somewhere for under $200 apiece.
OK, thanks for the info. We did sell some on ebay, but the consumer market was way too picky for our business. I sold a 50" Pioneer 502MX plasma to a guy as a used item with less than 600 hours on the screen. He was on the phone with me 3x day bitching about cables, scratces to the plastic...
Great question, I am waiting on the answer as well as I just ordered my first subwoofer. Right now all my speakers are set for large. I will try them on small once the sub arrives. Hell, I don't even know what the crossover adjustment or other options are supposed to accomplish on the...
