Normally, I don't preorder new releases cause my local BB usually sells them cheaper. This one time though I preordered "Das Boot" from Amazon.com--received it Tuesday! Watched it last night--first time I'd ever seen it...GREAT flick! The sound in German DTS is really good...the depth charges...
Count me in!! My keyboardist in High School figured out that cool Bach-esq organ theme used in the film, and would always perform it during his open solos. A really FUN film!
Just as I've been following the 3800 threads and Denon's progress with all of the fixes, they announce the release of the 2900!
Well, count me in for one!!! :)

I have to agree with Keith I that ALL of the bullet sounds are soft on this soundtrack. If others disagree, this is very strange indeed. Some dvds I own, gunfire is quite prominent in the mix (Last Man Standing, Resident Evil and Dirty Harry come to mind). The avalanche scene, however, was mega...
David: I'm always learning--and your right: well beaten topic. On to the movies! :D
Ted: I, too, use some banana plugs in my HT system. But your post reminded me about some comments Richard Vandersteen (of Vandersteen Audio, natch') has made concerning banana connectors. Uhhhh, basically...
David: Thanks for the info. Like your earlier post, I didn't go into great detail on my post either. I'm not an EE, but a PC board designer and fabricator. Much of what I do is mil-spec work; we use silver plated copper wire with teflon insulation. Tarnish is an oxidation, but with silver the...
First: Silver doesn't oxidize--it tarnishes.
Second: Soldered connections are second only to properly crimped connections in terms of good conductivity (though I don't think a difference could be "heard."). Not counting bare wire ends here (best connector is no connector, and all that). After...
I went for the gift set as well. Unlike the Spiderman gift set, I didn't see very many of the LOTR gift sets at my local Best Buy. Only 5 of 'em on the display table--maybe a marketing tool--they really have pallets of them out back. :D
We'll see.........
Just picked up Deep Purple's "Come Hell or High Water." I guess this dvd has been out a little while, but I was quite impressed with the PQ and SQ. Ritchie arriving late on stage in a tantrum (and the band's remarks about it) is priceless!
I was so impressed with the performance (they...
I have the Rotel RSP 1066/RMB 1075 combo, and I've been very happy with this duo driving Paradigm studio speakers. Having researched quite alot on Rotel gear before purchasing, I learned that parts selection for all of the Rotel products is pretty top grade with some of the parts custom made in...
I watched WWS last night--I was not bothered by film grain at all; the story was just too engrossing for me to notice on my 53" ws Pioneer! I really felt that the deleted scene with Westmooreland & McNamara should have been left in the final print. No, I won't go into why. All in all, certainly...
Chris, Have you tried Ameoba Records, or Rasputin's in Berkeley? They're on Telegraph Ave, and have a very large selection of used records. Amoeoba also sells new vinyl from all of the reissue labels as well. Good Luck!
I certainly can't wait for this release. I've read in a recent book about John Bonham that he, John, thought the Earl's Court gigs were some of their best performances up to that time. YEA!
I'm with Andrew on this as well: For cd (stereo) listening I have the sub set for "MIN." It's all we can do for now other than get up and turn our subs off manually. It's strange that Rotel should have such a learning curve with "40 years experience" making audio components. Still, for my needs...
Well, if this thread is indeed signing off, I would like to extend a hearty thanks to ALL participants! If it were'nt for you guys I would not have even taken a look at Rotel. I did take a look, I purchased, and I couldn't be happier--well, maybe happier if I could afford Krell gear! :b...
I saw this movie when it first came out and I was in my pre-teens. As I remember it, the audience in the theater were booing Tony Curtis and cheering Jack Lemmon (musta been a tough crowd). So this version of the movie sounds correct to me! :D
So far, I've only had to do that once and that was with Black Hawk Down. I thought I'd never get rid of the subtitles, but I must have hit upon the right set of sequences, i.e., button pushing, and got them turned off.
