Thanks Troy. :)
Scott, I started with the rears. I wanted to do the smaller ones first, as this was my first attempt at building anything as complex as this. So, the Peerless drivers seemed like a really good match for the Vifa soft domes. When I started designing the fronts and the center, I...
Fronts: Two way with integral sub. Drivers: Vifa D27TG-05-06 and Vifa P17SJ-00-06. Crossovers: 3rd order Butterworth crossing at 2,500Hz with all components from North Creek. Cabinets are vented, constructed of two layers of 3/4" MDF with crossbracing. Dimensions are approx 45"Tx10"Wx24"D...
Thought I'd add mine to the list. 6-months of work, but truly worth it. Designs including crossovers are all my own.
Here's my set-up. Mains, center, and rears are all DIY :)
Rotel RSX-1055 powers everything but the subs (2 sealed shivas) and I use a SAE 2400 L for that duty.
Geoff,
Yes, the 2400L is rated at 200W/ch into both 8 and 4 ohms. Factory test plots indicated a rating of about 240 for my particular unit. Now that's just the rated output, according to the user's manual the output does double into 4 ohms despite the official rating. The manual also states...
Geoff,
The "L" in 2400L means it has LED's in lieu of Vu meters.
I've never tried to reach reference levels with test tones. I've used them solely to get before and after readings on the Rat Shack SPL meter for adjustments with the BFD and to set levels for integration with the other...
I was watching ATOC at +2db over reference for the first 1/3 of the movie until my landlord started pounding on the walls.:frowning: I agree that the ship explosion at the beginning was the most taxing scene yet as far as highest db peak. I have an SAE 2400L driving two 3cuft sealed Shivas with...
I have an RSX-1055. Overall I am very happy with it, especially the sound with music. In fact, the % of time spent with music vs movies has shifted more toward music.
However, I still have in my system components with only analog outputs and that's where my concern is. I spent considerable...
KAB Electronics markets a completely manual version (you supply the vacuum from a vacuum cleaner) of the Nitty Gritty. They are selling it for >$140 + shipping. Check it out. IMHO vacuum cleaning is the only way you're going to get LP's clean.

I've had my 1055 since July and have played several HDCD's on it and mine has always immediately decoded correctly. Are you in 2 ch mode before you start the disk?
The RSX-1055 lists for $1299 and the RSX-1065 lists for $1999. Some have reported getting 5 to 10% discounts. I unfortunately had to pay list for my RSX-1055.
I received my RSX-1055 a month ago and couldn't be happier with the choice. I've only tried 1 HDCD disk, so I won't comment on it's performance in that area other than to say it did auto-detect the format. Musically, I think the receiver is the most musical in the price range and by a...
My recommendation-------Rotel RSX-1055, the most musical A/V receiver in that price range. I've had mine for a couple of weeks and could not be happier.:D
Could it be you are hearing sound with less distortion and therefore are "fooled" into thinking it isn't as loud as it really is? Do you have access to an SPL meter?
Success! The test tones just confirmed my initial impressions. Bass is definitely more extended. Without changing any of the filters on my BFD, in room response is flat down to 16 Hz using the 1055. Response fell of starting at 24 Hz with the JVC and was down -6db at 20 Hz.
That's an increase...
I finally got the remote to control the cable box last night, third try was a charm. :)
Jack, I'm anxious to hear your first impressions.
Tonight I'll have the time to re-run my test tones on the subs to see if low range extension has changes any. One of the unexpected benefits has been...
I finally have the RSX-1055 installed in my system. The 1055 replaces a JVC RX-778VBK. There were two reasons for replacing the JVC. First the pre-amp in the JVC would clip with inputs from my test tones disk with frequencies below 24Hz. Second, center collapse with pro logic made listening to...
Hi all,
Curiousity is getting to me here. I am a day away from picking up an RSX-1055. I have noticed from this forum that quite a few software upgrades have been released for the RSP-1066, but a search has turned up no discussion on any releases for the RSX-1065 which has been out for awhile...
Jack,
I'm in Seattle (so 'bout as west coast as you can get). The dealer has four units on order with a list price of $1,300. None have been delivered yet, so they only have the RSX-1065, RSX-972 and the RSP-1066 on display.
I'm paying list price, but with it being this new I didn't expect a...
Just placed a deposit on a 1055 this morning. The black one's are shipping this week and the silver one's are shipping in August. I should have mine by the end of next week. I understand the ring around the volume control will be red on the black units and blue on the silver.:D
They say the...
