    serial controls standard?

Larry, There is no "standard" for serial communications in the HT world. That unfortunately means that your LG/Zenith manual wouldn't really help you out. It COULD be the same, but who really knows. Either go hound Hyundai (they may make a bunch of other brands with the same essential...

Woe is me, new to the world of projector warranties!

I'd agree, I think you could get just as good performance for a bit less of a price. And you could put that money towards a good DIY screen (gotta have something DIY right?). Daffy Arthur King with the brain of a duck

    Few Questions about Flexy Rack

Well, thats the "second reason" for it being called a Flexy, it does have some sway. The tighter the nuts are onto the wood the less the sway, but you're never really going to get rid of it completely. You could probably come up with ways of eliminating the sway, but they might not looks...

    marble sub

Once again, Like I tell all my friends getting into HiFi. I say this regarding high end silver/monster/gold/etc cables. I say this about Spikes on speakers, I say this about levitating platforms (skipping due to vibrations not withstanding). The fact is that until you get your regular plain jane...

    New DIY Project

After having been on other forums before, I have finally decided to buy a new car. Ive ordered a subscription to Car & Driver and Road & Track to help with reviews and reliability issues. In your opinion. 1. A ford thunderbird 2. Chevy corvette 3. Lamborghini Diablo 4. Subaru WRX Sti...

howto add ventilation to AV cabinet?

Well, at the end of the day, if you want DIY, you go with X-10 home automation stuff. For example, this in conjunction with some X10 equpipment and some fans would probably do ya. This seems even simpler, as it just closes a contact on high/low temp range. There's lots of stuff there at...

    DIY crossover for subwoofer

I dont know what the problem is with your 80hz rolloff, but a LF crossover is probably one of the easier things to build. Any x-over design software can get you there. I would highly recommend not trying to "put the square peg into the round hole" by trying to power your Car crossover in the...

    DIY crossover for subwoofer

Yeah, it seems kind of pointless to shoot your IB into your sofa. Thats like putting your Sub directly behind a Basstrap. You're losing a bunch of your sound energy to absorption. Guess if thats your only option, but then you might as well have built a smaller single Sub and probably hit the...

    First DIY Sub, need suggestions.

Morlan, The performance of the Shiva has been documented extensively around here. It is certainly one of the best 12" subs for HT around. I guarantee itll out-excursion just about anything you buy premade. And those things it won't out-excursion, itll out price. The thing to remember is this...

Port length? with double wall ?

If the internal volume is the same, I was under the impression that you should leave the port length the same. Technically it doesnt matter if the port sticks out of the box a little or if its countersunk. There's a few people around that have "chimney stacks" on their subs cuz the port doesnt...

    Replicating a PB2 plus.....

Uh, unless you use the identical stuff from SVS, you obviously are not going to "replicate" it 100%. Aside from that, how about dual Shiva's with 380 rhythmic amp? Dual DVC 12" with a 500watt amp from Parts express. How about whipping out WinISD and diving in. Daffy Arthur King with...

    Video Insertion

Well maybe you should limit the number of channels that the customer can access... I mean, how about having a DVD or 2 made up with your advertising. Then have a couple or 3 channels that are done via VIVO on a ATI video card or whatever, and thats it. Have you ever considered that the...

    Video Insertion

If you want to do it "one off" then you can embed media files (like an MPG or WMV files) into powerpoint (the latest version at least). If you want to do it "on the fly" i.e. like they do it on CNN or CBS news, you better get yer wallet ready. This is NOT a trivial thing to do. Daffy...

Just bought a Panny 53tw53. Calibration help.

I have a similar problem with COMCAST digital HD/non-hd cable. What I had to do is to tell the comcast box to output 480p for non HD output instead of 1080i and then the tv was able to stretch the 480 signal. I dont think the DVI input allows for this, but I havent had a chance to test it...

My review of 53TW53 -vs- 50LC13

The 53TW53 has a DVI input which you could use for Computer connection. And I would assume that that would be a higher quality input since its digital and not analog like VGA. Daffy Arthur King with the brain of a duck

First Time DIY Sub Project .... One suggestion needed.

Well, I dont know about those "flanges" you have. The Flared ports that adire and Partsexpress sell are "smooth radius" almost like a Trumpet horn. I dont know if those jobbies you got will do much for ya regarding chuffing and so forth, or any idea how those would be calculated re...

First Time DIY Sub Project .... One suggestion needed.

Im not really hip to why using the adire FP3 ports is absolutely required. I mean, if he only flares one end (and compensates for the other cut end) there shouldnt be a noticeable difference in performance. Hell, in WinISD you can "compensate" for the difference by selecting flared/one end...

    bnc connectors instead of rca??

and what are you planning on hooking those BNC connectors TO? My Cable box(HD), DVD player, and TV have 3 RCA's for Component. how are you planning on plugging BNC connectors into your TV, or your DVD player or your Cable box or Satellite box? Just Curious. It seems to me that there are 20...

Anyone tuned a DIY sub in the 24-25hz range?

It may also be a feel based on what people have liked before. What im getting at is most people who are putting a Sub into their HT probably want that impact in the 25-45 range, but really have no NEED for the sub to be strong 25 and below. Generally these subs aren't slouches when it comes to...

Flexy rack for 160 pound TV - doubled 3/4" shelves and 3/4" rods?

I cant for the life of me find the link to it, but I saw a couple of flexy racks that had essentially 3 layers to them. One I did find and is easy to find is the Flexy+. Though I dont know if that unit really would add to the structural weight bearing capacity, it sure is nice :). The other one...

    DIY DVD rack designs

Well, you could always angle the shelves say, 8-15 degrees towards the back, of course, I cant speak of dvds working their way out of sleeves and such, but the CLICK IN dvd cases (98% of them) would hold DVDs in any kind of vibration, and the cases wouldn't come jumpin out of the shelves when...

What do you think of this vented ACI DV12 sub (model output)

The only possible reason you could have for going up to a 6 or 8 or even 10" port is to keep port speed low. I guess that makes sense (full disclosure, im at work and havent run your Sub through WinISD or Unibox) but dayum, thats a lot of "port" If his airspeed gets very high with a 4"...
