And if we all live long enough, perhaps they'll even get back to some of the 50s live action titles after that, although I won't hold my breath waiting for that to happen... ;)
Not to hijack the thread, but I’m glad to hear mention of the still-missing-on-blu-ray Don Knotts film, The Love God? — I sure wish Universal would finish the job and release that one, as well. I won’t hold my breath, but maybe those of us who want it will be pleasantly surprised at some point…
"Nanny and the Professor" was available on Hulu for a while, although it didn't include the third season, as I recall, and multiple episodes were also missing from the first two seasons. I now have season one saved in my watch list on Amazon Prime, because I'm curious to see if the print quality...
Watched this show as a kid when it originally aired, and thus began my lifelong love affair with Diahann Carroll. She was a true class act. I agree that it would be terrific to get some sort of official release of "Julia" on disc. I'd even be glad just to see it officially available via...
Well, here we are in 2020 (this thread started back in 2014), and I know folks must be happy that we've gotten four out of five of the Don Knott's Universal 60s-era comedies (technically, "HTFA Figg" is 1971) on BD, but I for one am still jonesin' for "The Love God?" on BD. Hell, at this point...
Your reply is very much appreciated, Mr. Harris. I suspected there was probably some behind the scenes discussion that took place after the initial posts in this thread, since things seem to have resolved themselves amicably. And it makes me happy to know that the crew at Kino are as excellent...
Kino Lorber is really on fire these days! I've probably added 40+ Blu-rays from their Studio Classics collection to my library over the past year or so, and most of them have been excellent, in terms of A/V quality. With that in mind, I just pre-ordered The Grey Fox and am excited to finally get...
This is one that I've heard nothing but good things about over the years. So glad to see it coming out on Blu-ray, and have already pre-ordered my blind buy copy (via the HTF Amazon link, of course).
P.S. I'm not sure exactly what the dancing banana is officially intended to signify...
Thank you for the heads up on this, Mark! I picked up “Big Red” and “Ride a Wild Pony” since I can’t imagine those will ever get an HD release on physical media. I held off on “20,000 Leagues” for now, because even with Disney’s “eccentric” release choices on blu, I find it hard to imagine that...
Yup, and I’ve got it! But there’s still nothing quite like the feeling of truly owning it by being able to hold that shiny little disc in your hands, eh?
Don’t know if it’s been mentioned yet, but I’d also like to single out Bob Fosse’s first directorial effort, “Sweet Charity” (1968). Saw a screening of it at UCLA the other night, and it’s a great time capsule of the swinging era, and a much better movie than its box office receipts would...
Re: “W.C. Fields and Me” (1976), that wouldn’t surprise me. And if that’s the case, I couldn’t really blame his grandson. I understand that much (maybe most) of the movie has very little to do with with historical reality, but I’ve always had a soft spot for those 1970’s depictions of...
I can't wait to see what sort of true classic goodies Kino has in store for us, but in the meantime, here's a random (newer) pairing I'd like to throw into the mix:
Cry Freedom (1987)
W.C. Fields and Me (1976) [Guilty Pleasure ]
Robert, I agree with you about all of these, but I do have one small piece of good news for you: Babes in Toyland IS available on blu-ray. And I don't believe it's a DMC Exclusive, since I also found it listed on Amazon just now for $14.99.
BTW, does anyone have a clue when the Parent Trap...
Thanks for all the useful info, everyone! Even after reading through all the posts, I'm still not sure who owns rights for Wild Wild West on DVD. Any ideas?
Robert, thanks for a great article! While I'm at it, thanks also for all your hard work over the years in restoring so many wonderful films! A quick question for you -- is there any chance we'll ever see your incredible restoration of Abel Gance's Napoleon on DVD? Seeing it when it toured the...
