    DIY TV Stand Plans?

Yeah, it helps eliminate any 60hz hums that can get into any signal wires. Same idea is always preferred for PC board layout since it produces a cleaner signal. If they need to cross, they should always do so at a 90 degree angle, since that allows the least amount of interferance and so on. Of...

    DIY TV Stand Plans?

Dude, you need to make your cable holes bigger! Oh, and it's a good idea to keep your power and signal cables away from each other, so having holes for just your power cables is a good way to do that.

Home Theater Sound Paneling... any ideas???

O.K. I have to take issue with this. First off, why won't staples last? They are not going to corrode away to nothing unless you are in a saltwater environment and they are not going to suddenly "let go" of the fabric or anything. This is obviously an opinion, but you need to state that it is...

    My DIY TV Stand

Oh, and of course, the Salamander unit is only 65" wide, I wanted to fill the space below my screen, so I made mine 94" wide.

    My DIY TV Stand

I agree Bryan, I think I had a total of $320 invested and with all the options from Salamander, for the Triple 30 with casters and the sides would be $1200 plus shipping or tax or both.

    My DIY TV Stand

The problem with getting them anodized locally is that they are already clear anodized and would have to be stripped first. As for Rose+Kreiger, when I went to their web site originally, it really sucked. So, I ordered a catalog and then called the local rep (he was in MD.) to get pricing...

Home Theater Sound Paneling... any ideas???

If you wanted to do soundboard below a chair rail, you will want to do something to help bring the trim back to wall level. Typically when any treatments are used and fabric stretched over it, you install furring strips to staple the fabric to and then cover the staples with wood trim. If you...

Home Theater Sound Paneling... any ideas???

Well, I wouldn't mud and tape the soundboard, I don't think that would work. In our situation, soundboard is typically installed over sheet-rock and then covered with fabric and some people (this is they way I did it) also put the polyester batting on top of the soundboard before the fabric. The...

    My DIY TV Stand

Ah, there you go! I didn't look that far back at my pics, I forgot I had that one on there. The black finish is done with all the tips and ideas from Joe L. and his various speaker projects. I used 3/4" thick oak plywood and red oak 1x2 banding, glued and nailed together. I then used a black...

Here it is: This was the stuff I got from Lowes.

Home Theater Sound Paneling... any ideas???

Bud, sound board is kinda strange as it comes in 4x8 foot sheets, is about 1/2" thick and gets damaged easilly, so HD and Lowes don't alwasy have it where the normal customer can get to it easilly. The material is almost like carboard pulp that is not fully compressed. It is a fiberous material...

    My DIY TV Stand

Bryan, 80/20 will probably be cheaper, especially if you can use the stuff they put up on their ebay store(http://stores.ebay.com/8020-Inc-Garage-Sale. But, if you want the black anodized finish like I got, Rose+Kreiger is the only way to go. They don't charge a fixed "lot" price, but instead...

    Converting sealed Tempest to ported

But the ports are open to the inside of the box, so your sealed sub is actually a 230L sub, but your ported sub is only 225L. :b

    DIY Proscenium Subwoofer

Joe, I haven't been on this forum for a while, I didn't know you were this active on this forum. You didn't post that many pictures on the DIY speaker thread on AVS! Glad to see my rendering made it onto this forum as well though!

    Powering LEDs...?

Mike, just make sure you don't overpower these babies. Use the proper resistors to match the voltage and the overall resistance of the LED's. I put some LED's on my motorcycle (more brake lights since the aftermarkets ones on there are hard to see) and while a fun project, it took some time...

Turning old speakers into a DIY sub.

Ryan, if you wanted to experament a little, you could simply get a subwoofer amp and use that to power your cerwin vega AT-12's as are, no modifications, but only sending it the LFE channel of audio. If nothing else, you will get some bass until you get a decent sub going. It won't go as low as...

    My DIY TV Stand

Bryan, I hate to say it, but I don't like the Salamander black shelf blocks. I looked at theirs before making my equipment rack and decided on a different path. I used the t-nut from Rose+Kreiger (they did black anodized finish much cheaper than 80/20 did, which I had to have) and then simply...

    DIY TV Stand Plans?

Take a look at what I have done: I basically took the idea of the Salamander Synergy triple 30 and made it to fit the size I had to fill. I bought the aluminum extrusions from Rose+Krieger (40x40 square) and cut all the wood. The aluminum extrusions can also be found through www.8020.net...

    Converting sealed Tempest to ported

BTW, not that it matters now, but for your sealed design, you need to caculate that based off of the added volume of the inside of the ports as well, since they are not sealed on the inside edge of the port, but the outside edge (you plug it without taking the box apart). No biggie though.

Home Theater Sound Paneling... any ideas???

Blaine, the burlap may work, but it also may not fit the needs that people have for the interior look they are going for. That is where the Guildford of Maine fabric starts to really make a difference. It is made so that it is acoutstically transparent, that way, it doesn't reflect, but allows...

    My new theater web site....

I have thought about making more of a cabinet style rack, with adjustable shelves that I can add doors to (if I decide to do that later) with a metal mesh so the components can breathe. I have been considering this for a while, but I have other projects that will/are taking priority. Also, I am...

    My new theater web site....

Yes it is a DIY rack. It is basically a Flexi rack. You can do searches on Flexi and find out all about it. I will someday rebuild the rack, as I don't care for the look anymore in the room.

    theater dimensions

My room is 22 1/2 feel long, 15 feet wide in the front, 13 in the rear. It would have been nice to have a full 15 feet all the way, but the house facade does not allow that. That said, I seat six very comfortably, in three reclining love-seats. Also, depending on door location, you could have...

    Movie reels table

I went with the two cast aluminum Goldberg reels, and three wooden dowels per table. I used an epoxy to attach the dowels to the reels, after painting the dowels silver. I left the natural used finish of the reels, for effect. I then had some glass custom cut, for about $30. The dowels, paint...

    Tumult Plans

In the newer versions of Pro-E, you can simply create a JPG image. I did that, cropped them and put them on my web page, and used the "IMG" vB code. So, if you have a place to put the images, it is very easy. If you right click on my pics, and go to "properties", you can see where the image...

    Tumult Plans

I happen to use Pro-Engineer for my job (Mechanical Designer) and one of the options is to subtract mass from one object out of another object. I was able to take the 3-D model of my center channel speaker design and subract the drivers, brace and port so I could get an accurate volume calc. I...
