OK, I just setup my first HT system and am confused. With Pioneer Elite DV47a dvd player sending component video signal directly to 4:3 Sony 40xbr700, I'm getting better picture (sharper, less artifacts, proper sizing, etc) when I set the Pioneer DV47a to 16:9 (Wide as opposed to Compressed) as...
Heard them all, and bought B&W cdm 9nt. Would have bought any of the cdm line before comparable M&K. M&K was great for HT, but just plain "boring" for music to my taste. As always, listen for yourself, but as for musical cues to my preferences, I tend to like very detailed, tight speakers that...
Haven't decided on sub yet, but since I will only use sub on HT with my 9NTs, I'll probably try a HSU VTF2 first and see if that satisfies. Can't do SVS cylinders with kids running around sub. If HSU doesn't work, maybe B&W asw 2000-2500, Velodyne HGS stuff or Paradigm servo (much more money)
Good alternative, Rodney, except that now Rajee has to get the HTM1 or HTM2 center (MORE$$) and possibly go to separates or better amp with tx49 as preamp (heard the Nautilus line is a little harder to drive than lesser B&Ws).
Of course, now you've got me thinking as well! RAJEE: how do you...
Not much more I can add here except that I've just gone thru the same excercise and here are my thoughts: started with CDM1NT and N805. Love the sound of the CDM1NT and very favorable compared to N805 (not better mind you, just very comparable for the price diff. BEFORE I even hooked up the...
I've owned B&W (and BMW 528) 803s2 for years and love them. I've heard the Nautilus line and they sound great. I just picked up B&W CDM9NTs for HT use. So obviously I love the "B&W sound". The only other speakers that have moved me emotionally are electrostatics/planars (ML, Maggies, others I...
BTW, has anybody else heard the 49tx in comparison to other units like the B&K 307? obiGeorge says its evry bit as good sonically if not better, and has a warmer sound which would mate well with my B&W CDM 9NT's. Anybody else heard this unit???
Thanks Scott! Exactly what I'm hoping for out of the 49tx, although I realize that addtl adjustments will be necessary. DVD-a and SACD will have to wait, I'll be happy to listen to regular cd's for now, but like the fact that the 49tx has bass mgmt for 5.1 analog...
Ted, Evan, thanks for the replies. I do want to be able to tweak the system eventually, and the 49tx (says obiGeorge)and others do allow that flexibility, so I think I'm ok there. But with the auto cal, I can get a good result "out-of-the-box", and tweak later when and if time allows. Ted...
I'm not a techie, so I'm looking for a processor that will calibrate most of my settings automatically (levels, spkr distance/delay) so that I don't have to sit there and adjust these levels myself with a test tone, spl meter, distance calcs, etc. Maybe I'm wrong or overstating the...
I hear what you're saying on the Outlaw, but I'm not sure it has the ultimate flexibility I'm looking for, and I'm pretty sure I don't want to wait months to get one. What makes the Pioneer 49tx so appealing is the auto calibration feature. This makes a world of difference to me. If its the...
Want the easiest but best sounding solution for a newbie who really doesn't want to spend hours upon hours tweaking system to maximize performance. My hobby is actually listening to the system. I'm considering B&K 307, Pioneer 49tx, or prepro/amp combo like rotel 1066/1095. Trying to keep...
Slowly but surely I'm finally putting together my HT/music setup in 15x18x7 basement. Started with cdm1nt for fronts, now just bought cdm9nts to replace the 1nt (not even set up yet!!). Now thinking about N804's instead of CDM 9NT. Of course, this would mean upgrading to HTM2 center and maybe...
Gil: I'm actually very happy with my 803's in my living room as my two channel system, and was simply looking to create an HT system in my basement. My first thought was to go small and cheap, like the Def tech pro100 system (after all this was just HT). But then i got to thinking (a dangerous...
Thanks everyone for your opinions. I was hoping to find used 7nt's for around $1400 or so, but nothings turned up, so I think I will jump on the 9nts since the price is so good. Having a pair of the old 803 matrix in the living room, I've really come to appreciate (almost) full range speakers...
Looking for advice on front mains for HT setup (some music also). Thought I would get 7nts, but have a chance to get 9nts used for $1800. Haven't seen used 7nts around lately, and best I could do new on them is likely $1700. Is there a material diff btwn them in HT with everything set to small...
