    Are you an "audiophile"?

as Hemingway wrote, 'Isn't it pretty to think so?'

    Are you an "audiophile"?

It's funny that Atkinson couldn't come up with the obvious explanation --that the intrinsic resolution of Redbook CD is *quite good enough* for a delivery format, and that any sonic qualities Kal Rubinson projected onto the device beyond that were imaginary.

...which is to say, it was probably entirely adequate, in terms of audible distortion and dynamic range. I bet he left that part out though. ;>

It's 'MacArthur Park'. And yes, it's dumb.

    Are you an "audiophile"?

You know, BOSE is hardly the only purveyor of audio gear to employ the 'made cheap, sold expensive' strategy. You'd be surprised at the cost of the stuff inside some of those brushed-aluminum front panels at your local boutique audio salon. And don't even start me on cables....

    Are you an "audiophile"?

Stereophile has rather infamously praised gear that tested rather badly on its own bench. That's what can happen when the wild and wooly 'subjective' reviews (in a sighted comparison "the soundstage opened up and I was hearing details I never heard before" -- I've seen this so often I have to...

Fly Like an Eagle cd/dvd reissue release date pushed back

Yeah -- as in, all of the synthesizer parts are gone. All that's left is a few seconds of the 'wind' noise at the end. Not much of a 'Space intro', there. Leaving off the bulk of the 1:14 Intro to me, is akin to leaving off the bulk of the 1:14 'Speak to Me' from Dark Side of the Moon. I'm...

Fly Like an Eagle cd/dvd reissue release date pushed back

It's missing the 'Space intro', just like the DTS disc did --this doesn't bother you?

You select that in the second Acoustic Calibration menu window, I think. You may not realize it, but there is more than one page to this window...see the arrow near the right hand bottom.

War of the Worlds damaged my SVS!

    - The Elite 74txvi has a BASS PEAK LIMIT option to protect a subwoofer from exactly the damage reported. - it also has a standing wave compensator as part of MCACC, that should knock down the worst one or two modal peaks at the listening position. Make sure it's on. - it also has a...

Pioneer Elite 74TXVi vs Denon 3806 vs another

I highly doubt they sound intrinsically different. Differences will be due to application of different room correction EQ and related settings. What sold me on the Pio was the ilink capability ( have an ilink SACD/DVDA/CD/DVD player) , and the USB connectivity (for all my sound files from...

    Pioneer Elite MCACC

    1. I presume the AVR's tones are the best ones to use with its mic 2. Chnaging speaker size does not affect phase or Auto EQ. You have to rerun these (in 'Keep SP settings' mode) to change them to suit the new speaker size. Or you cna just run the whole process with speakers set to 'THX'...

Correction of 56TXi review in WSR Magazine!

FWIW, I find that while MCACC and BM (and presumably speaker delay) is available to SACD and DVD-A sources, DPL IIx is not.

    LOST season 2 discussion thread......

OK, if not the *finale*, does anyone know when or if Lost goes on 'hiatus' -- the annoying common practice nowadays of switching to reruns or otherwise not showing new episodes, for a period of a some weeks in the middle of the season?

Wow! I didn't expect this: I think I'm done w/ analog amps (receiver or separates)

Then again, a lot of folks on those forums take dubious premises like 'burn in' of amps rather *too* seriously, and well-known factors such as expectation bias rather not seriously enough, so caveat lector.

    SACD, DVD-A vs Neo 6 ?

I have a related question -- if passed *digitally* through ilink, can a two-channel SACD or DVD-A mix be processed by DPL II in such receivers as Pioneers' TXi line? (I know from experience that they can, as expected, apply DPL II to *analog* two-channel SACD or DVD-A input, but I don't yet...

    SACD, DVD-A vs Neo 6 ?

Not true, see above. You can get the 'hi rez' stereo mix using the two-channel analog out of many players, as well as the L/R analog out of the mulitchannel output panel.

    Kung Fu Season Two

Obviously employing cropping in the first season box was merely a marketing ploy, so that they could use the'true to the original airings' tag as a draw for the rest. Diabolical! :D

    Just saw Team America

Nice try, but I think it's pretty clear from South Park episodes and their utterances to the press, that they simply find politically outspoken actors to be ridiculous, period. (Makes one wonder why the current governor of California got a pass, though).
