Before deciding on Klipsch, think about the type of sound you would like. For pure dynamics and volume, it's hard to beat Klipsch. Also, I've heard many "younger" music fans claim that Klipsch sound more like live music. At the ripe old age of 44, I now consider live music to be an acoustic...
If quality bass is important to you. Spend your funds on a quality Sub. The Energy Take Classics sound good with a quality sub (12" sealed box, 300w) to me. You can aways upgrade the speakers later and the $200 for all five Take Classics isn't much more than you spent on wire. If you're...
I agree that equalization is worth a try and is much less expensive. If you are looking for oomph you can hear, you probably want to put more emphasis in the mid bass region. Also, if you have floorstanders as mains, try setting them at large with the sub crossover fairly high so that there is...
Nicko, in your price range the Dahlquist QX10 would be worth further investigation. The on-line dealer is audioshop.on.ca I believe Marc is out on Tuesdays, but he is very helpful. My take on the QX10's is that they are an ideal blend of the B&W 604's and the Paradigm Studio 100's. Of...
Wayne, Marc at the Audioshop is great to work with. You might also ask him if he has a Dahlquist setup that might work for your friends. Also, Onix/Rocket (AV123.com) is working on a small 5.1 system called the ELT. It will also be available as 2.1. My understanding is that it will be very...
I agree with Alex that the Dahlquist line should be considered. I extensively auditioned to Paradigm Studio 100's, B&W 604's and Monitor Audio S8's (as well as others that did not impress me). I liked the reviews the QX10's received, so I took a chance. I've never owned a product that exceeded...
The early 7200's had difficulty running video through the unit. Mine was supposedly fixed, but I think the picture through it is noisy. I run direct to the TV, so it is not really an issue for me. The two quirks that annoy me most are: - when hitting pause or when tracks change, there is...
Dave, I have the 7200. It has some quirks, but the sound is fantastic. It's warmer character will probably be a great compliment to the Paradigm sound. Good Luck!
Alex, my sides sound great even with the listening position (direct radiators). I found that I liked the sound when they were lower (about 5-5.5 feet) than mounted closer to the ceiling. If you have the flexibility to do so, try different locations. Good Luck!
Hi Marc, I'm still considering a pair of smaller speakers to be wall mounted. I'd probably use a mount like the Panavise that puts them a few inches from the wall. What would you recommend the QX5, QX4 or anything else that would perform well on the wall? Can you sell Mission on-line...
Ray, Dahlquist makes speakers with a nicely balanced sound. I have them in a 7.1 system and have been very pleased. If you don't mind seconds, the Dahlquist QX4 bookshelves and the small center would probably fit you bill for under $350. Don't be deceived by the low price, Dahlquist speakers...
Corey, I agree with those the recommend getting timbre matched speakers.
However, if that is not important you might want to look at the Dahquist QX10's. On-line dealer is Marc at
Audioshop.on.ca
The same shop as recommended for Axiom above. My experience with Marc has been great
Good Luck :)
You can probably get the Dahlquist QX10's, center and surrounds for around $1,500 from: audioshop.on.ca They are a great value and NOT a compromise in quality. I'm biased of course:D Leon
Clyde, I can't speak for the QX9, but the QX10's are more detailed in the mid range than the QX60 center channel (2 sixes in a sealed chamber). The highs are similar, and the mid of the QX60 is very good. But, the QX10's to me are the really special part of my setup. I have the QX10's in...
James, it sounds as though you are blessed with a neutral environment:) Due to my layout, it's not surprising that I have a room enhancement. I'm glad to hear that blocking a port did not an impact on the bass for you. Guess that means those of us with a room node can get closer to the full...
Marc, in my room, the front of the speakers are about 3 feet from the wall, but are fairly close to the side walls, equipment rack, RPTV and SVS Sub. In an ideal world, they would have more room to breath. That may be why I hear some exagerated low bass. (I don't consider it boom because it is...
James, I use rolled athletic socks. I stick them in just far enough to be secure. I can't think of the name, but I've been using the 1996 Diana Krall, track six?, just before jumpin' jive as one of my bass demos. When I block the top port I lose a little ooph and depth, but I'd swear the...
Clyde, I think the QX10's image well, similar to the Studio 100's, but do not have the slight granularity in the highs that I found to be the biggest drawback of the Studio 100's. However, the QX10 tweeters are not as laid back as say the B&W 604's. The highs just sound natural with no obvious...
Clyde, I believe there are no U.S. distributors. Audioshop.on.ca is the authorized Internet distributor. It is quite a leap to buy speakers without hearing them, but I've been exceptionally pleased with my QX10's, QX60 center, and QX20 surrounds. For a while I have been planning to...
Dan, my room is 11.5 feet across & my couch is about 1.5 feet from the rear wall. My side surrounds are about even with the listening position. A 5' openning in my rear wall prevented my from spreading them out. They are two studs apart, about 3 feet and centerred. I think the sound great there...
Locating your mains higher will hopefully put your tweeters closer to a straight line with the center channel tweeter. I would think that would lead to a more seamless front. However, in either situation, I would think that you would want to get as much space as possible around the speakers...
Aaron, my room is a bit smaller than yours and my couch is only about 18" from the rear wall. Do to an opening, I had to mount my dual rear surrounds only 32" apart on the rear wall. However, they sound great for 6.1. You can always turn down the level if you think they are too loud. Like you, I...
The Dahlquist QX10 has characteristics that fall inbetween B&W and Paradigm. Before purchasing the Dahl's, I extensively auditions 604's, Studio 100's and Monitor Audio Silver S8's. I feel the QX10 is of the same caliber. The QX10 is a great value and worth an audition if you get to Canada...
Hi Chris, Partsexpress.com should have passive crossovers to suit your needs. However, do you hear the overlap, or is it just the concept that affects you. If you like the sound of a little more emphasis in the lower regions, keep it. Should make movies more fun. For more than a year I...
John, my room is similar in size to yours, but it opens into other rooms and a hallway. One SVS 16-46+ with Samson 1000 is plenty for reference level at my house. However, two would be better :D If you are going with 7.1, then you probably do not want dipoles. However, if you do a lot of 5.1...
