    Need RPTV size advice

I have a stadard def RPTV, but the digital channels are great. The picture is better, and the sound is awesome. I wouldn't dare watch sports on a non-digital channel if I could help it. And one thing that seals the Digital deal for me is that my wife loves the Gameshow network. And when HBO...

    Need RPTV size advice

Do you have Digital Cable? We have Time Warner Digital Cable, and they broadcast the HD signals (with the right cable box) for the local netwrok affiliates. They should also carry ESPNHD when it starts up. Check with your provider, if you haven't already.

    picture distortion from speaker placement

Along these same lines, I've noticed since getting a new entertainment center that on channel 3 from my digital cable, there are waves of parabolic lines flowing from what appears to be the point closest to my reciever. It only happens on that channel. It's not all that noticable, but enough to...

I've got a totally honest question for everyone.....

Besides Screen size? That's pretty much the only reason. But it's a big one. :)

Does anyone do this? (about PJ bulbs)

I could see myself perpetually taking quarters out to buy soda @ work. :)

    Consumer Reports Issue covers RPTVs

Got my Consumer Reports in the mail yesterday. This was a "Big TV" cover story. I don't really know too much one way or the other, so I can't comment on how accurate they were, but I was struck by the lack of attention paid to burn-in potential. There was a single line, with no mention of how to...

    Screen sizes (HD vs Standard)

65" it is, then. :) I'll plant that bug in the wife's ear now. Even though I'm a year or two away from seriously thinking about it.

    Screen sizes (HD vs Standard)

I could do the math myself, but I'm sure someone else already has. :) If I have a 50" 4:3 screen, what should I consider to be a comparable 16:9 TV?

    Digital projectors, UPS, and bulbs

Yes, you can. We do that at work. I work at a Bio-tech company, and we have a lot of labs with equipment that needs local UPS. We wire the UPS directly into the outlet loop for given group of benches. We have an electrician that does that, so it may be over the head of a novice. He uses a...

    Digital projectors, UPS, and bulbs

I don't have a FP. But I stick a UPS on every computer or AV device in my house. Consider a small one will cost you ~$100 for 500VA, and it's a bargain. Go with a bigger ~$300 1500VA UPS and you gain a heavy-duty unit delivering clean power to your hungry yet sensitive electronics. We don't...

    Best TV possible for $1000

If I were stuck with a budget that low, I'd just wait a year and see what trickles down. The economies of scale are just starting to kick in for these sets. I think 04 or 05 will get you a great deal more for your buck on the low end. And of course in 04 or 05, I'll tell you you should just...

    Projector VS TV

The effect that ambient light has on sub-5K FPs tends to be a good deal worse than comparably prced RPTVs. Additionally, it's not trivial to incorporate a 9' screen into traditional living room funiture. RPTVs, even huge ones, work better with established ideas about how a TV should look. RPTVs...

Moving a 50" RPTV across town

Just an update on how things went: Rented a 14' Uhaul (moved Entertainment center also) Had two friends help. Two of us lifted the sides with the 3rd stabilizing the front. Carried it up the ramp to the truck. Used a flattened cardboard box (from my shopvac) and blankets to protect the...

Moving a 50" RPTV across town

Just get a buddy. I have a 32" Sony (not wega) and it's no big deal for two guys to carry. I've moved mine at least 10 times since I've had it. Just get a good grip, and lift with your legs. :) You don't need a box, just set it in the back of the van. I moved mine that same way.

Moving a 50" RPTV across town

Will an appliance dolley with straps be enugh to move this, or does it require the brute strength of a few beer bribed buddies? Will tilting ~30 degrees back be harmful (I read >45 was to avoided at all costs)?

Moving a 50" RPTV across town

I need to move a Mitsu 50" RPTV (4:3). I don't know too much about the issues to be mindful of (how close to flat it could be laid while on a dolly, for ex.) My plan thus far is to rent a 10' truck from Ryder/Uhaul/whatever with an appliance dolley and tie-downs. I read elsewhere that putting...

    Stylish Center Channel

Have not yet chosen furniture, but the TV will sit on top of a stand. There will likely be an open shelf directly below. Price range is ~2500USD for all 5.1 speakers. I realize my furniture will determine which speakers would look the nicest. But I'm just trying to get a feel for what's out...

    Stylish Center Channel

Looking for a stylish center channel to go along with a Silver Sony 50" plasma screen. I like the one that comes with the Sony DAV-C990 "Dream System", but don't know how well they sound, or would fill an open 30x50 area. Any other mid-level product lines I should be looking at?

    Dig Coax Switchbox?

I've searched for the last few months, and have not seen what I need. I have two componets that have dig. coax out (dig. cable box, and DVD) but only one dig. coax input on my reciever (sony db1070). I've been just moving the cable back and forth, but this is both tedious and difficult...
