    Stryke AV-15

Or another question, If I want to get usable output below 20Hz in a sealed enclosure, what drivers do you recommend? The reson I ask is that I am looking to build a sealed sub and want to build something that will best an SVS 20-39. The SVS does well to 20 Hz and then falls off pretty quick.

How to set up 4 subs?

Hey Mr. Bunge, Great memory! Unfortunately, I have been working for a living. Or perhaps I should say I am thankful I have a steady paycheck. The 60 hour weeks and traveling have taken a toll on my time. Family takes up the rest of the few valuable hours. Perhaps I am having a "mid-life"...

How to set up 4 subs?

Wayne, My parade has been wet for years. :) For your edification, your posts on setting up a BFD were helpful when I went through the process. :emoji_thumbsup: I likely will continue with room treatments and looking into improving the bass in the room. The recommendations of trail...

How to set up 4 subs?

Let me recap what I think I have gotten so far: 1.Multiple subs either cause a ragged response or help optimize the modal response of the room. 2.Success is attainable using multiple subs if one is willing to EQ and phase align regardless of 1 above. 3.Recommendation of one large enclosure...

How to set up 4 subs?

Sorry about the link. I will get if fixed next time as soon as I get back to work. Richard_M, As far as subs go,I have a Beringer 1124P that I am using now. It only has two channels though. But it seemed to make a difference after I got it dailed in. So I think I understand where you are...

How to set up 4 subs?

Thanks Wayne for straightening me out about how to wire. I was considering building a sub/subs and am doing some homework on what might work best for my room. If multiple subs, then I would need to make sure I could daisy chain them together and have an amp that can adjust for gain. Actually...

How to set up 4 subs?

I saw a thread a while back about a fellow named Todd Welti, that did a study on optimum number and locations for subs. http://www.harman.com/wp/pdf/multsubs.pdf . The results were that two were good and 4 were better. With that in mind, how do you send the LFE from your receiver/pre-pro to 2...

    Audible Component Differences...A Nousaine Story

Kevin, Can you tell a difference between your old 950 and your MC-8? Sighted, blind or otherwise? I think this may shed some light on KrishnaS's query earlier about where to spend hard earned dollars on HT equipment. (I am curious myself...) I'll put my 2 cents in now. Speakers...

    Audible Component Differences...A Nousaine Story

I certainly do not consider myself an audiophile or golden ear. Quite the contrary. Looks like I have fallen into the Urban Legend trap. I have had only one experience where I thought I could tell a difference when doing a wire/cable comparison test. I said that I “thought” I could tell a...

    DIY hearing check

I have heard that most people over 30 do not hear frequencies up around 20kHz. So I wanted to know if there are frequency sweeps or some type of .wav files somewhere to download from 15kHz and above. I have some up to 20 hz, but not above that. I am curious what I can hear. Anyone else...

    Possible finishing tip

Thanks Pete. That's the stuff. Except what I used came out of a can. Anyone else used this product? I know it doesdn't look like much, but it worked for me.

    Possible finishing tip

A while back, someone posted about drinking glasses leaving marks on wood finishes, like speaker tops. (possibly Hank) Last year my father in law had me use a product called "OZ Cream Polish". He used it on many of the pieces of furniture he built, and it does in fact seem to stop any water...

DTS Neo 6 vs. Dolby Pro Logic II (CONSOLIDATED THREAD)

Not to toss fuel on the fire ;) But this thread had some information on the effects of comb filtering on 2 channel performance. Comparison of 2 channel versus PLII or Logic 7 or whatever your multi channel DSP of choice is, may provide some entertainment. It sure gave me something to listen...

    Veneerer respect

Since we are on a roll here, So you guys do one side at a time, or do you wrap it on all 4 sides and then let the glue dry?

    Veneerer respect

Dan, I did wise up and use wax paper after my "accident". As far as sanders go, it seems to me that on a flat surface a power sander is fine. I got into trouble around corners and trying to sand dried glue off the veneer. Too much pressure and time sanding. Chris, I need to visit...

    Veneerer respect

Mr. P. W., I am more impressed with your piano black finish of the sub you did, but appreciate your well detailed photo chronology of your speakers. Guess the bottom line for me is that this was a project I took short cuts and tried out new things. Got burned. I realize it will be quite...

    Veneerer respect

DT, Thanks, I've got some Titebond, but understand that it has the potential to disbond if you let it get hot again. I think I read somewhere that someone had an amp sitting on veneer and Titebond bubbled. I used some of the "iron" on wood veneer years ago and it bubbled too. I was...

    Veneerer respect

I have a new found respect for “veneerers”. I am in the finishing stages of a couple of speaker stands. Made from ¾ in MDF with cherry veneer. I put some ¾ inch radii on the corners of the MDF. I had a heck of a time keeping the veneer down around the corners and splicing it together...

    Patchwork veneer

10-4 ya'll. One problem is that I have no clue what kind of veneer this stuff is. I do not know how to identify wood. And I have already done the top and bottom plates. I was hoping I could brag that I built a set of speaker stands for less than $10. I got a 4 x 8 sheet of MDF for 98...

    Patchwork veneer

I have some veneer I am using on some speaker stands. The trouble is the free, note free, veneer is in rather small pieces, approximately 1 ft x 2.5 ft. I need to make a patchwork pattern on the vertical part of the stand. I have been told the way to butt or overlap veneer is to place...

    DVA-A = DVD-Annoying

QUOTE]But if you aren't into it, no one here is going to change your mind. Nor I yours. That is one of the great things about this forum. Opinions are neither right or wrong. Interesting link Dan, thanks.

    DVA-A = DVD-Annoying

I wanted to follow up after a weekend of experimenting with speaker placement. I was finally able to get a less annoying soundstage from many of the DVD-A recordings I own. I placed the side surrounds on the floor. These are full range floorstanders, (still crossed over at 80Hz). I moved them...

    DVA-A = DVD-Annoying

Rick, Room acoustics and speaker placement do seem to have an effect on some sonic signatures. The specific cut of Hotel CA, when in the sweet spot, the vocals did come from overhead. If I shifted from the sweet spot, the overhead perception went away.

    DVA-A = DVD-Annoying

To follow up on my initial posting. I have spent some more time setting trim levels, moving speakers and simply listening to mc. This is just my opinion, so don't blast me... but I find mc intriguing when used as background music and not for "critical" listening. The high resoulution...
