I don't see it as a matter of superior vs. inferior versions. I want Lucas to complete his saga to his satisfaction, and if that includes modifications to the OT so that they're consistent with the prequels, so be it. Whatever it takes. However, the original versions were out there for 25...
Regarding the "case" analogy, yes, it's true that many complaints are pragmatic (i.e. some cases simply aren't practical), but it seems that many are not. I distinctly recall some members saying that they prefer the thicker double-disc cases because they set them apart from single-disc sets, for...
Barry, IIRC, the digital source was matted down from 16:9 to 2.35:1. Furthermore, the effects (that exist in almost every shot) would have been applied to the matted source. So I really doubt that it is an open-matte transfer.
The "green" look is especially popular at the moment. Movies, video clips, and even TV commercials are using it. Hell, it's even used on the cover art for Sting's "Brand New Day" album! It seems to be used whenever the aim is to look "hip" and "alternative," a la Se7en (except with Se7en it was...
This is probably a better indication of the quality of the R4 release:

That said, michaeldvd.com.au is not some unknown website--it's quite a popular site for R4 reviews, AFAICT.
The interesting thing about that screen shot is (for me) the fact that you can watch each deleted scene with intro individually. You could not do this with TPM, IIRC.
I think their "Widescreen vs. Fullscreen" feature article is excellent. It'd be very educational for anyone who still isn't sure about the difference, and that's only a good thing, IMHO. :emoji_thumbsup:
I was actually looking forward to seeing some of the "naked" Threepio scenes. I suppose the amount of effects work needed on all these scenes was a factor as well.
Well, the official site has listed the deleted scenes here:

Padmé Addresses the Senate.
Jedi Temple Analysis Room.
Obi-Wan & Mace - Jedi Landing Platform.
Extended Arrival on Naboo.
Padmé's Parents' House.
Padmé Bedroom...
I'm pretty sure that the "exclusive" deleted scenes on the VHS are "exclusive" as in "never before seen," not as in "exclusive to VHS." It's just awkward wording, IMHO.
WinDVD captures to a 4:3 frame whether the source is anamorphic or not, filling the rest with black where necessary. I've never seen the bootleg DVD, but some of those captures look too good to be from a bootleg (unless somehow taken from the digital source), IMHO.
Dan,
That's why I tend to buy R1 discs as well. At least then I usually know what cut I'm getting. With R4 discs I always research first.
Anyway, my vote for image printed on the first disc is a close-up of a clone-trooper mask. The film is called "Attack of the Clones" after all.:)
