Since the 1959 western Warlock is coming out on DVD, it reminded me that I still don't have an OAR version of the 1989 Warlock with Julian Sands and Lori Singer -- the existing R1 DVD is P&S or full-frame. Is there any hope of an OAR re-release?
You're channel surfing on cable or satellite, looking for something to watch, and after a while you land on a channel that's showing one of the movies in your DVD collection. You decide to stop surfing and watch the movie. Do you continue watching the movie on the cable/satellite channel, or...
I recently saw the Shrek 4-D attraction at Universal Studios in Orlando, and I later found out that it used digital projection instead of film. That blew me away -- the picture looked so good, I was sure it was film. In fact, this is the first time I've mistaken digital projection for film. Does...
I've already got Weird Al's earlier DVDs: The Videos and Live. His new Ultimate Video Collection doesn't sound like it's worth upgrading to, except maybe for the remixed 5.1 audio. Has anyone compared the new DVD to the previous one?
Has anyone picked up or reviewed the new Halloween 3 DVD that was released today? I'd like to know whether it's anamorphic, and how the transfer compares to the previous non-anamorphic DVD.
I've had my Sony 530D DVD player for about 2.5 years now, and the only problem I've had until now is the lip-sync problem (which I had fixed by Sony). Today I watched "UHF" and the video froze for few seconds during the opening credits. Then about halfway through the film, it froze again. When I...
I just saw Changing Lanes yesterday, and I would have enjoyed it a whole lot more if the damn camera would just stand still! I have no problem with handheld cameras when they make sense -- when they're following a moving character, for instance. But in a simple two-shot or close-up where...
Woohoo! After 2.5 years of collecting DVDs (only about 150), I've finally managed to watch all of them! Until now, I've always had a backlog of about 10 to 20 that were waiting to be watched. How many DVDs do you guys have in your backlog?
I understand that several of Sony's direct-view TVs have the ability to anamorphically squeeze the picture, which preserves the full resolution of anamorphic DVDs. Are there any other manufacturers that provide this feature in their direct-view TVs, without requiring you to use the service menu?
Several of my favorite films are available only in MAR (modified aspect ratio), with no OAR (original aspect ratio) version in sight:
A Christmas Story
The Jerk
The Karate Kid
True Stories
Warlock
What other MAR-only DVDs are you guys waiting for in OAR?
