Need Help building a better sub than my AV15

I've been an owner of both the Tumult and a TC Sounds TC2000 subwoofer. I used the Tumult with 2400W of power in a 2.5 cuft sealed enclosure and the TC2000 with 2400W of power as well in a vented 5 cuft enclosure tuned at 20 Hz. The TC2000 I had, had the tall surround of the TC3000 and let me...

A good question for DIY experts in design...

Allirght! This is mostly what I was thinking. By reading those 2 answers, this makes me think about something. I would really appreciate others to comments on this as I think that I may be wrong. Suppose that the end of a port is too near a wall of the enclosure or near the back of the...

A good question for DIY experts in design...

When you make some braces in your subwoofer box, does this matter HOW they are and HOW they are placed? In a certain way, Im pretty sure that yes. However... in order to not compromise at all maximum output, are there any rules to follow in order to avoid any loss in output? For example, does...

4" flared port inner flare diameter?

Oh!! I think Ive found the dimensions in the forum. Anyone can tell me if Im wrong?? For a 4" flared port, the outside flare diameter is 7.25" and the inside flare is 6.25". Viva the search button!!! :D

4" flared port inner flare diameter?

Hi all! Does anyone know the dimensions of the flare, the one which is in the enclosure?? This would be for a 4" flared port, the one you have when you buy for example a FP4 vent kit from Adire. For example, the outter flare diameter is 7 1/4" (not too sure am I correct?), that is the other...

Hi, I have a 194L Tempest vented finished enclosure with 64 ounces of polyfill included (it is already in the enclosure) and the two 3" flared ports included / all prepared for a 18.8 Hz tuning. The plate amp hole is already cut and ready to accept an Adire DT300 class D 300W amp. The finish...

Paradigm Monitor Speakers Owner pls chip in your thoughts

I have the M9s for the mains with a Yamaha RXV-630 receiver, but the towers are powered by an Anthem MCA-20 power amp. I really feel that this Anthem worths every penny with those speakers. The bass of the M9s is really more controlled with the Anthem and moreover, the overall sound tone is...

Im worried about the extreme limit of my Tumult...

In my case, its not for daily applications... but rather, to feel more confident if I ever need to push it harder sometimes. Most of the time (80%), when I listen to music, I can see just the two first pair of green LEDs on my QSC amp. So I guess that I dont push it so much most of the time.

Im worried about the extreme limit of my Tumult...

Because I for example, am a last possible dBs freak :D I know that the excursion changes with frequency but I try to maximize power in order to reach maximum excursion at the lowest / acceptable frequency in a sealed box, for example at 20 Hz. I chose the 2400W amp because I thought about making...

Im worried about the extreme limit of my Tumult...

Wow Seth... so I think that Im gonna try to avoid clipping as much as possible  I wouldnt like very much one day to fry my Tumult :frowning:

Im worried about the extreme limit of my Tumult...

At first, I thought that 1600W wouldnt even be ENOUGH... and I see that this is quite the case, BUT over 1600W, you are over the thermal limit of the woofer. If you want the maximum of your Tumults, in your case, yes, two PLX1602 or another amp which can deliver near 1600W of power are well...

Im worried about the extreme limit of my Tumult...

I already think about making a vented enclosure this year, certainly before the summer time, so I'll get more bass power without buying another woofer (I mean in the low bass region). I wanted to try a sealed Tumult first, just to know how it would sound and by curiousity because I didnt own so...

Im worried about the extreme limit of my Tumult...

Well, Seth_L in this forum uses the same amp than me, and he started using his Tumult way before me... he doesnt seem to have any problem so far yet with his woofer. If you do a search, I think that you can find the time when he said that the thermal limit of 1600W was for ONE continuous hour...

Im worried about the extreme limit of my Tumult...

Im running the amp in BRIDGED Mono mode... so yes, 2400W of power! ;) But that 2400W shouldnt be harmfull for the woofer, because it is not continuous. For example, in a boom boom song (techno like), if that 2400W is really used, it is used on each "boom" hit. And yes, the amp clip limiter is...

Im worried about the extreme limit of my Tumult...

Hello, It is so hard to find the extreme limit of the Tumult woofer because it sounds so clean!!! I have for it a QSC PLX2402 amp and it seems to me that the amp clip before the woofer can bottom out (I measured the woofer excursion with a ruler). So now Im confused... when I begin to see the...

How much can an air leak of this kind reduce the performance?

Yeah, and I thought about your post a lot of time. Brian Bunge (I hope that I spell it right) doesnt seem to have any problem by using only the supplied Tumult gasket. So I said to myself: why not using that gasket first and we'll see after... and now I see! :b I dont know if its unthinkable...

How much can an air leak of this kind reduce the performance?

Hi, I finished my Tumult sub last week (but without the wood veener finish yet). If you remember, I wrote a post about the Tumult gasket, if alone it would be enough. So I tried the sub without any other gasket. The first time I played a song, I could hear really bad air leaks around the...

    Tumult rubber gasket enough?

Cool! ;) So why not trying to not apply any other gasket for the first time! The sub is finished, well almost, and I'll see if there will be any air leaks when I will test it. Thank you guys for your suggestions and comments, very appreciated!

    Tumult rubber gasket enough?

Hmm ok... I wonder what would Dan Wiggins say about my question. Any people use only the Tumult gasket? Looks like Im gonna be some neoprene like you did, just to be sure ;)

    Tumult rubber gasket enough?

Hi all, Just to be sure... According to you, is the Tumult gasket is enough for making a well sealed enclosure? This may be a dumb question but Im an air leak freak, I seal all what I can see :D I think that it is enough... but I wonder if any other use something else for sealing the woofer...

    Paradigm Monitor series versions

I think that he talked about the v.3 and not the v.2 for the comparison against the Studios60 v.2. And I found him right! Sure, the 60s still have an edge, but beeing a person which owned for a long time the v.2 et now the v.3, I find the v.3 to have not only very little improvment in the sound...

Is my Paradigm X-Over 30 unit defective?

Hi all, Since a good month, I played with different low pass / high pass crossover settings and I find something isnt right. I have a DIY Tempest subwoofer and my mains are Paradigm Monitor 9 v.3. These floorstanders are powered by an Anthem MCA-20 stereo power amp and the av/receiver is a...

I tested out a sub and here is what I got.

This will be hard to port the Tumult unless you decide to build an enclosure which has a long depth and smaller length / width with a big flared port. So for a vented Tumult box, the best solution would be, in my opinion, to use a slot port or passive radiators instead of using a big flared or...

    Tumult and a sealed enclosure...

Ok... all in plywood or all in MDF ;) I justly thought about using plywood for the braces, because it sounded weird to me to mix 2 different materials for stiffening the enclosure. So thanx for backing my mind up! :D I wonder how really hard is the plywood... I mean... I worked a lot with MDF...
