I have the X-A2 and the Bourne Ultimatum locks up at chapter 14. It produces a "fatal" error (408cf504?) that could only be fixed by unplugging the unit. I am still using firmware version 1.6.
Yes, the X-A2 has some problems with bass management. However, after a bit of frustration with my setup I discovered that not all receivers can apply bass management to an analog input to compensate for the bass management problems in the X-A2. My receiver cannot so I'm not able to boost the LFE...
I only won the most recent battle, not the war! I'm still trying to firgure out the labyrinth of commands and settings of my receiver to see if I can compensate for the speaker management problems of the X-A2. Or, I could just continue to use the digital coaxial connection and wait for Toshiba...
False alarm. I inadvertently screwed up some settings on my receiver that cut out the front main speakers. Modern audio/visual equipment got the better of me once again!
I've read about problems with the bass management (BM) of the X-A2 when using the 5.1 analog. Supposedly you can overcome the BM problems of the X-A2 if your receiver can apply speaker management to an analog input. My receiver cannot do this so I'm experiencing some very low volumes on my...
Thanks Robert. After I wrote my message I unplugged the box for 30 minutes or so. It worked fine after that. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know if the firmware update will correct this problem?
I just got the X-A2 a week ago and it's been working great until tonight. I was watching Babel last night and stopped it halfway through. Tonight I start up my equipment to finish watching the movie and there's no picture at all, just sound. My tv is fine, all other signals work. So I start...
Just watched it last night and was amazed at the color saturation and clarity of the film. The shots of the Bounty sailing at sunset were absolutely some of the most amazingly beautiful shots I've ever seen. Even the eye color of the actors was very distinct. Very film-like picture quality with...
So far, so good. I got my new X-A2 up and running without too many hassles. I watched Babel in HD and it looked great even though this movie is probably not the best source for testing HD. However, I also watched my SD DVD of Pirates of the Caribbean and I was really blown away! I don't even...
I believe this is the reason some people get the X-A2 model rather than the A2. The X-A2 has the 5.1 analog outputs that can handle Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Digital TrueHD tracks. The A-2 doesn't have 5.1 analog output, so the only other way to get these formats on the A-2 model is through...
I just received the XA-2 model today. The price at Amazon dropped to $599.99 on Monday. That made the decision to buy or not buy much easier for me and I bought one. Even if I only get a couple years out of it watching HD-DVD and enjoying upconverted SD DVD, it seems like a worthwhile purchase.
Thank you Norris. I'm getting my X-A2 delivered tomorrow and I will also be using the 5.1 analog connection to my receiver. Your experience will save me some headaches and frustration.
The article you referenced is extolling the virtues of the Toshiba A1 and X-A1 compared to off the shelf CD players. It is not comparing the A1/X-A1 to the A2/X-A2, nor is it comparing digital vs. analog 5.1 audio connections. I believe the A2/X-A2 players are built with the same quality of...
I'm in the market for a new display unit and I know there's nothing currently available with HDMI 1.3. Can this be accomplished (in the future) by some kind of software update on an existing display unit? Or does it require purchasing a whole new display unit? BTW, I'm thinking of getting the...
I'm sure this has been discussed in other threads but I'm getting a bit confused about this issue. 1) Do the A2 and XA2 models use the same Silicon Optix Reon chip to upconvert SD-DVD's? Or to state it more simply, does the A2 model upconvert as well as the XA2? 2) Is there any...
I read in another thread that the Toshiba XA2 uses a Silicon Optix Reon chip to upconvert SD-DVDs. Does the A2 model use the same chip? My 1080i TV doesn't have HDMI or DVI inputs, just component. Will I get any upconversion through the component connection on either the A2 or the XA2?
My seating is about 10 to 12 feet away. I assume that regular cable tv will look worse on the larger screen size, but standard DVD (upconverted) and HD-DVD should look about the same regardless of screen size?
Would there be a significant picture quality difference between the 60" and the 70" versions of the Sony SXRD XBR2? I'm also thinking about getting the Samsung HL-S7178W. I saw one in a store and I was impressed with the picture quality. Would this 71" set be substantially different than the...
Paul, thanks for starting this thread. I was disappointed that Fox decided to stop broadcasting this on their movie channel. I saw a couple of them before they were canceled and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the restoration. In spite of the controversy surrounding them, they are one...
I have a Toshiba SD6200 and have the sync problem as well. It is most irritating during the "Jinx meets Bond" scene, but I noticed the sync problem starting at the beginning of the movie and at various spots throughout.:frowning:
Add me to the list of extremely disappointed people who have waited for this title to be issued in widescreen format. Those who would be satisfied with fullscreen can watch it on a television broadcast and would probably not buy the DVD anyway. The marketing people at MGM need a remedial course...
I'm thinking of trying out the Antiference Silversensor indoor antenna to receive HDTV OTA broadcasts. It's a made-in-England product. I looked around on some web sites and found a Zenith ZHDTV1 antenna that looks exactly the same as the Antiference Silversensor. Is it the exact same antenna...
Thanks for the reply Michael. If the STB receives a 720p signal can it only output a 720p signal to my TV? Or can I change the output to something that my TV can read?
My two year old Toshiba 56H80 is supposed to natively display 480i, 480p, and 1080i. I want to purchase (for OTA use)the Samsung SIR-T151 set top box that outputs 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i. If the Samsung receives and outputs a 720p signal, what will my TV do with the 720p signal? Will it...
