Yes, Top Spin is very stretched, but you do get used to it after an hour or so of playing, and the terrific gameplay more than makes up for the lack of widescreen support. Same can be said for ESPN NHL. I was really ticked that it was 4:3, but after a few weeks of cooling off, I'm kinda used...

I'm not buying it (re: no 16:9 support for ESPN NHL Hockey, aka NHL 2k4). The post was made by someone from Visual Concepts that just registered 2 weeks ago, it's not an official statement, or an official interview with the developers. I think we have an ill-informed employee that...

Outlaw Volleyball is absolutely a 4:3 game. You can discuss it over at the developer's forum if you wish: http://www.hypnotix.com/forums/showt...?threadid=1074 (Mike, the admin there, is one of the guys that made the game. Complain to him).

Rob - If you dashboard is set to 16:9 enabled, if will pass through 16:9 games as 16:9, and 4:3 games as 4:3 (pretty much just like a DVD player works where you tell it what kind of display you have in the initial setup, then it knows). So, if you don't want 4:3 games stretched, you'll...

Doug - XBox games do not have options to turn 16:9 on or off. They detect your dashboard settings and will go 16:9 automatically if it supports it. Just because it's multiformat, don't rule out 16:9 support. Look for something that should be perfectly round, then switch formats on your...

Good call Scott. The moon is a perfect test to watch the circle stretch into an oval. You can also find some spot lights on various levels and see the same effect. I will say that RTCW does look just fine stretched to 16:9 though. They seemed to program the textures for something inbetween...

Sean, Yes, NFL 2k3 is 16:9. Also, no XBox games have menu options for 16:9 mode. It's built into games and they will turn that option on automatically based on your XBox Dashboard settings. It's only $20 for a reason, the game isn't that good (IMO) and it's online play is flawed. But...

Nope. No trick. Don't look at the screen overlays, they aren't reformatted for 16:9. Just the players and background textures. Again, just like WSB 2k3, look for something round that you can look at in replay mode and switch the TV's formats around.

Yep, NCAA BB 2k3 (Sega Sports) is a 16:9 game. BTW, when referring to a Sega Sports game, they always use "2k" rather than 200_ for naming purposes. EA Sports and other companies still use the full year and numbers. ie. NHL 2k3 and NHL 2003 are entirely different games, one has awesome...

Sean, I have a DTC-100 external DirecTV HD receiver. It will accept the 720p signal that I get from my local ABC affliate and upconvert it to 1080i for me. My HDTV will not accept any 720p source, only 480i, 480p and 1080i (alot of HDTV's are like this). Some HDTV's that don't natively...

Buying a new HDTV to get 720p, only to play a few XBox games, would be a complete waste of money. Nothing else uses 720p right now, other than ABC-HD and most HD receivers will convert that to 1080i for you (which looks fine).

Michael - That guy on the Sega board obviously doesn't understand what to look for. My HDTV doesn't lock the format in progressive mode (meaning I can change from full/narrow/zoom/fill/etc etc @ 480p). The real test (at least on my set) is to set the dashboard to 4:3 and look at the game...

Okay, I can confirm that Michael is not nuts. ;) World Series Baseball 2k3 (XBox) is a 4:3 game when displayed in the 480p resolution (which 95%+ of HDTV owners will be forced to play the game on). I guess 16:9 support is exclusive to 720p on this title, which is a first for the XBox. What...

I'm assuming: -you have the HD kit and have connected the XBox to a 480p component input jack on your 16:9 HDTV -you have 16:9 enabled in the XBox Dashboard -you have your HDTV set to it's regular/full mode If so, the game should be 16:9. I've talked to other trusted people on other...

No, I'm saying that if any content (game or television broadcast) is in 720p HD, then by definition it's in the 16:9 format. WSB 2k3 DOES support 720p (fact, confirmed by many)...just not here yet, and by that fact we can be sure that it also has 16:9 support. If it's 16:9/720p, then by...

Michael, if the game supports 720p, then it also supports 480p by default. It couldn't be a HD game (720p) and NOT be in widescreen. It's getting reported all over that it's 16:9. I'll have the game tomorrow and confirm it.
