The quality of Japanese releases is pretty good considering most of KK films are low budget affairs. Once again it needs to be said that his films will not appeal to everyone but isn't this a case with most truly interesting filmmakers? Cassavetes once said that people hate his films while...
I don't have the box set (as some of the films included have no subtitles) but I do have CURE, LICENCE TO LIVE and CHARISMA (all w/subs and all available from cdjapan). CURE has been released in US and is making rounds around the country right now so chances are domestic DVD is forthcoming. LTL...
True. K. Kurosawa is an acquired taste and I can understand how his films will not appeal to everyone. Approach with caution if you're not familiar with his other work.
PULSE is not only easily available from cdjapan (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=KWDV-12) but it has English subtitles as well. My top ten pick of the year and easily the best recent Japanese horror film.
They're reliable and nice but hardly the only game in town. If you're only interested in one of two titles go for either dddhouse or coolashop (which btw has the best and most informative website). 20 and more - dvdshelf has slightly better prices, bigger selection and super fast (but...
Could someone point me to the best DVD? I have US version (DANCE WITH THE DEVIL) which I haven't watched yet hoping a better cut will surface. dvdshop seems to be selling a special 2-disc version but the English track is only 2.0 (plus I'm afraid of forced German subtitles). Then there's a UK...
I am an ufortunate owner of the HK version of this title which adds insult to an injury by being full screen. It is indeed an awful film. Shot in English since the action takes place in some kind of bizarre French version of NY (where night clubs are actually crowded before midnight!) it is a...
I have the Malata for a while already and hands down it's the best all region PAL/NTSC player. Not a Holy Grail (there are some conversion artifacts on certain PAL discs) but damn close.
Apparently - as I discovered after my initial post - progressive multi zone NTSC/PAL player is here already (http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/002857.html).
Would the standard US DTV that accepts progressive signal (whether component or RGB) be fine for such a player? What about those...
Has anyone tried this:http://www.tvone.com/CDM-830T.htm
And another question: with the progressive DVD players becoming more common how does one go between PAL and NTSC (tenlab and tvone don't seem to be equipped for handling progressive signals).
