Using an Outlaw 950 with an ICBM

Hmmm. Well, I guess I'd be able to figure out if the 1066 is handling the redirected LFE properly pretty easily by comparing the digital feed (with redirected LFE) to the analog one (with LFE passed through directly from the DVD player). Thanks for pointing that out.

Using an Outlaw 950 with an ICBM

I don't own a 950; I have a Rotel RSP-1066 which, I mentioned above, also seems to have some bass management quirks with its 6.1 analog inputs. I'm not interested in a strictly analog preamp because I like the flexibility and features that the 1066 provides. I like the way PLII and Neo:6 sound...

Using an Outlaw 950 with an ICBM

No comments, anybody? Does the setup I described above seem like a valid solution? Or am I overlooking some potential problems?

Using an Outlaw 950 with an ICBM

I know it's been said many times that the 950 and the ICBM aren't very compatible because the 950 routes LFE + summed bass from every channel to the subwoofer, but I think I've figured out a way to get them to work together. Now, I don't own a 950, so please correct me if my logic is flawed...

Rotel 1066 DOES have bass management on the 6.1 inputs

Thanks for posting your discoveries. I'll have to experiment a little bit and see if I get the same results. I hope the Rotel isn't doing automatic bass management on the 6.1 inputs. One of the main reasons I bought it was because I was under the impression that it was a true pass-through...

***Official*** Rotel RSP 1066 Fact and LOGICAL discussion thread

Everyone seems to have a different idea of what "bypass" should mean, so I won't get into that, but 2-channel stereo will only use the main L/R speakers. If the source is 2-channel, it will remain 2-channel, but if the source is more than 2-channels, it will combine the channels and send...

DTS Neo 6 vs. Dolby Pro Logic II (CONSOLIDATED THREAD)

Just out of curiosity, John, what are your preferences for the PLII Music settings?

DTS Neo 6 vs. Dolby Pro Logic II (CONSOLIDATED THREAD)

I decided to give Neo:6 a closer evaluation yesterday, too. Guess what? I like it!! On my system, it does seem to create a cleaner, fuller sound.

DTS Neo 6 vs. Dolby Pro Logic II (CONSOLIDATED THREAD)

The only thing I really fiddle around with is the "center width" setting. The default is 0, which is too center-heavy for me, so I have mine set at 3. That directs more of the center channel information to the main L/R speakers. I've also played with the "panorama" setting a little. Sometimes I...

DTS Neo 6 vs. Dolby Pro Logic II (CONSOLIDATED THREAD)

I settled on PLII because of the adjustable settings within PLII Music. For those of you who have compared the two and preferred Neo:6, did you play around with the PLII music settings at all? Those settings can really change the way PLII sounds. Having said that, I'll have to try out Neo:6 a...

***Official*** Rotel RSP 1066 Fact and LOGICAL discussion thread

I had been planning on buying the 950 for quite a while, but decided not to put my name on the waiting list until April because I wanted to read what everyone had to say about it first. I started hearing about the Rotel, but didn't really give it much consideration. The only thing I remarked at...

Hypothetical situation: measure good/sounds bad vs. sounds good/measures bad

(OK, I noticed that Larry B has already expressed pretty much what I wrote in this message, but I wrote it, so I'm gonna post it, doggone it!!)

Hypothetical situation: measure good/sounds bad vs. sounds good/measures bad

Yes, but what you listen to on your home system is a recording, not live music, so whether you like it or not, you're dealing with a recording.

Hypothetical situation: measure good/sounds bad vs. sounds good/measures bad

I don't think wanting to hear recordings the way they were originally meant to sound is "anal." After all, music is an art form. I think most people probably want their visual art reproductions to look as similar to the original as possible. I don't know why that should be different with music...
