    Onkyo Matrixed to 7.1?

Hi, Jim. Sorry I didn't reply sooner, but I was at work. The 705 (which I have) and above will for sure matrix all those 5.1 formats, including PCM, to 6.1/7.1. I know the 605 won't matrix 5.1 PCM to 6.1/7.1, but I'm not sure if it will for the Dolby and DTS high definition codecs. It definitely...

    Onkyo Matrixed to 7.1?

Jim, if you buy one of the new Onkyos, you won't need to run your analog cables. They can accept audio through HDMI. There are differences between the models in how they handle matrixing. The 605 can matrix regular 5.1 DD and DTS to 6.1 or 7.1, but can't do it with 5.1 LPCM. The 705 and above...

    HD Audio baffles me

Michael's right. Your player will decode most of those codecs and output them as PCM over HDMI. The exception is DTS-HD Master Audio. No current HD DVD or BD player will decode it. Some can, however, send it out as bitstream over HDMI to the new receivers that will decode it.

HD A2 AUDIO ISSUE USING BITSTREAM

Ah! I have an XA1, not an A2, and was looking at a .pdf of the A2 manual online hoping to find something to suggest when I saw that. Didn't know it was no longer valid. Sorry!

HD A2 AUDIO ISSUE USING BITSTREAM

Look at the top right side NOTE on page 53 of your manual. If you have the HDMI audio output set to 'auto' or 'PCM' and are connected to an HDMI display, it will reduce the output level of audio being sent over the analog jacks AND the SPDIF connection. You need to set your HDMI audio to...

Okay, Let's Start Over: Please Explain How These New HD Soundtracks Work...

Actually, the Onkyo 705 and above can overlay DSP processing on 5.1 LPCM (mine does it just fine with both my Tosh XA1 and Samsung 1400). The 605 can't do this.

Help on understanding audio requirements for pre-amp from HD-DVD/Blu Ray players

Also to be considered is that no current HD DVD or BD player will pass TrueHD or DTS-HD MA as bitstream information via HDMI. So Multichannel PCM over HDMI or multichannel analog are the only options for those formats at this time.

HD-A2 upgrade is now available for download. Now version 2.5!

Probably the US one. It's zipped, which should mean less time to download. Plus you won't have to worry about the menus appearing in both the Queen's English ('colour' instead of 'color', etc.) and French... ;)

    DVI to Y'PbPR (Component)?

There are DVI to component adapters, but these only work with DVI-I ports, which carry analog video. If it's DVD-D or HDMI, I think you need a transcoder of some sort to convert the digital RGB video to analog component.

    Help with Mt46805

As the kind folks on another forum replied to your post there, your Mits moves the 4:3 image back and forth to avoid burn-in, so the widths of the side bars change. It's normal and a design feature of your set. My 46807 does it, too. If you really want to get into the service menu of your set...

My HD-A2 won't recognize HD DVD as a DVD

The WMV HD discs *require* Windows Media Player 9 or higher due to the file types and Digital Rights Management that Jeremy mentioned. Your HD-A2 is not running Windows or its Media Player and so it won't play or even recognize the WMV HD discs.

My HD-A2 won't recognize HD DVD as a DVD

Sounds like you might've gotten one of the WMV HD discs. Terminator 2 was released in that format, as were several IMAX films. These will not work in HD DVD players, but must be played on computers with Windows Media Player 9 or better.

    Superman Returns

I'm now on my 3rd brand-new Superman Returns disc, and it too pauses/skips/locks/fast-forwards on Chapters 21 and 22. This was purchased from an online retailer, whereas the first two (initial buy and an exchange) came from my local BB. With all the folks who are encountering this, I'm wondering...

Noob Question - HD and Component!

Kevin, any decent progressive-scan player is already doing this as part of the deinterlacing process for film-based material, so your TV turns off its own pulldown/deinterlacing for these signals. S-video, on the other hand, is 480i, so your set deinterlaces it for output. The set's inexpensive...

    I NEED HELP!

Your TV's DVI input may not incorporate HDCP. Some older sets did not. If so, this could be disabling 720p, 1080i, and upconversion and causing you to see 480p only even if your DVI input is capable of the higher res. The Superman Returns HD DVD is a combo disk with HD content on one side and...

I see no Image using HDMI Connection

I agree with what king is saying. Your next step should be to hook up another known good HDMI player to your TV. Failing that, take your player (and your HDMI cables) to a friend who has an HDMI-equipped TV, or a local store who's willing to let you hook up your HD-DVD player to one of their TVs...

    Superman Returns

I wonder if maybe my local BB just got a bad batch? The metal layer on the first one was ragged and torn at one place by the center hole, instead of being cleanly cut like the second (and all other DVDs and CDs I own). Perhaps the combo discs-SR is the first HD/SD combo I've bought-do have more...

    Superman Returns

Been there, done that with both copies of Superman Returns. No joy. I even sprung for a Memorex OptiFix Pro polisher/cleaner machine 2 days ago, with mixed results. I initially had freezing problems with my copy of Constantine that cleaning the disc did solve, so I know cleaning can help. Not in...

    Superman Returns

Yep. I'm on my second SR disc. The first locked the player at Chapter 15, this one does it at about Chapter 21 to 22 just like yours. Sometimes the player locks up, sometimes the film fast-forwards without sound. Once in a while, if I hit the menu button immediately when the player freezes, I...

HD-A1 causing interference with HDTV and receiver

Definitely sounds like a ground loop-the humming and scrolling bar are good indicators. Try using an extension cord with the HD-A1 to get the player on a different outlet if possible, or a cheater plug (normal 3-pin female side, but only two male prongs) to lift the ground on the HD-A1. The...

    Center Speaker Bass Managment Malfunction

Hi, Harvey. Sorry it took so long to get back to you, but I had lots of cooking to do yesterday for our holiday and couldn't find the time to run some tests. It appears that setting the center channel to "large" makes the player's test tone come out the same as the other speakers set to "small"...

    Center Speaker Bass Managment Malfunction

Harvey, set your center speaker to "Large" and the test tone will sound the same as from the other speakers. On my XA1, setting the center either way didn't seem-to me, at least-to affect its sound with real program material.

    Backlight problem Fixed

My Mits 46807 has the same display with 4 X 3 at 1080i out of the Toshiba as Daniel's projector, regardless of how screen size is set in the Toshiba's setup. Maybe the Tosh isn't capable of fully stretching the image when outputting HD resolutions, or maybe the engineers are trying to avoid a...

Official FAQs For Toshiba & RCA HD Players

Daniel, perhaps this may not be correctable. It looks like the output screen size is fixed in the HD resolutions (1280 X 720, 1920 X 1080) and that the player can't or won't fully resize the image to fit that screen. Kind of like displaying a 640 X 480 photo or program screen on your 1024 X 768...

Noticable difference between TrueHD and DD

Hi, Thomas. Believe it or not, I've never heard SACD or DVD-Audio, so I couldn't make that comparison. My only frame of reference is the difference between CD and analog sources such as tape or phonograph.
