can ultra-low frequencies damage speakers or sub?

What if I just play a 10Hz tone through a pair of regular speakers? Not necessarily trying to hit any particular dB's, just playing it at moderate volume to see what comes out. Presumably nothing, but will it damage the speakers to put this signal through them?

can ultra-low frequencies damage speakers or sub?

And if you have any suggestions for fun multi-tone sweeps, let me know.

can ultra-low frequencies damage speakers or sub?

I put together a CD with a bunch of different tones and sweeps to test speakers and subwoofers (and more fun - love those 150-20hz sweeps!) and was wondering if playing as low as 10hz might damage speakers or subs in any way? Thanks.

know a good place to buy a/v equip in NYC?

Thanks in advance for your help. I'm new to NYC and will be helping someone put together a simple a/v system in their new apartment. Can anyone recommend a couple of good shops for a moderately priced system (with better quality inventory and more knowledgeable staff than CC or the Wiz)...

Please help??? Two sub-woofers to choose from...

Here's a solution - if the person starting a thread doesn't want all the inevitable SVS comments, they should specify that they don't want to hear it. If they don't, we can assume they probably don't know about SVS yet. For the record, I'm getting a little tired of seeing 10 posts about SVS...

FS: Klipsch Bookshelf Speakers and Center

I'm moving and might be interested in selling my speakers: I've got a pair of black Klipsch KG2.5's that I've been using as mains for about 5 years - they're in great condition. I've also got a 1-year old pair of Klipsch KSB2.1's, and a 1 1/2 year old Klipsch KSC-1 center channel. If someone...

Any Reccomendations on 5 Disc DVD Changers?

I second the other Burke's suggestion of the Pioneer DV-C503. I've had mine since January, and it's a great no-frills player. The FF/REW functions aren't great, and the on-screen graphics are terrible, but it is eminently capable when it comes to playing software. A friend just ordered...

SVS 20-39 arriving tomorrow quick couple of ?'s

Judy, I can answer only your first question - yes, all you need is an RCA from your LFE out to your amp, and then speaker cable from the amp to the SVS. Enjoy your sub!

what do bits and Mhz mean?

Sorry for the multiple post, but if my assumption above is right (that sampling frequency has little to do with the frequency of the sound being reproduced) then you could certainly have a format that samples at a 2.8mhz rate, but only reproduces sound from 20hz-20khz, right? It would just be a...

what do bits and Mhz mean?

I know my questions aren't up to the sophisticated bent this conversation is taking, but you guys are a great source of info. Aren't we mixing two kinds of frequency here? Isn't 44.1khz the sampling frequency for PCM - in other words, the CD sends the receiver 44,100 16-bit numbers per second...

what do bits and Mhz mean?

Bob and Kieran, Thanks for the responses - I think I'm starting to get it. But one question - the sampling rates you describe would seem to apply to the recording of music - once it's in software form (on DVD or CD), the sampling rate is fixed, so there's a limit to how much digital...

what do bits and Mhz mean?

I've been noticing that some DVD players have 27 mhz, 10-bit Video D/A converters, while others have 54 mhz, 12-bit converters. For audio, many have 96mhz, 24-bit, while other go higher. I assume higher is better, but what technically are these numbers telling me, and in what ways and how...

DVD/CD Changer to go with my system?

I have the Pioneer DV-C503 - 5 discs, DVD, CD, CD-R, DD, DTS, optical and coax outs for around $250. A good no-frills player. Also, I think Panasonic has two new changers - both play DVD's and CD's, one is progressive scan, both play mp3's, etc.

Any positive reviews on DVD carousel players ?

Anthony, I don't know how sophisticated a player you're looking for, but my Pioneer DVC-503 has been really good to me over the last 6 months. I wanted a changer that would accommodate CD-R's. This player has never had a problem on CD's or DVD's. It does lack great FF or REW controls, and...
