If they really wanted to squash bootlegs they could have simply giving this release a little attention and made it a standard quality DVD release of the original films they are currently marketing this release as. This release (IMO) will only give the bootleg producers a slightly better...
Thank you and everyone else who pointed out films that were part of a DVD as bonus material. I've never heard of such a thing until this Star Wars release and obviously my DVD collection does not include any of these examples.
My opinion on the anamorphic issue is: 1) When has a full length film been released as "Bonus Material" on a DVD? 2) When has LucasFilms ever released non-anamorphic Bonus Materials on a DVD? 3) When has a DVD ever been marketed solely on its Bonus Materials? It all adds up to "The...
Like you see on those Alien Autopsy videos. :P "While we cannot confirm the legitimacy of the films presented in this program many so called 'believers' are convinced of their authenticity and have struggled for many years to convince skeptics. These 'believers' hold annual events to...
#1 is what I believe, if past behavior is any indication about future behavior then we have nothing to fear. (ex. "Last Chance" editions on VHS & LD) Furthermore, if this is truly the last "Last Chance" copy then putting this release out will only give the DVD pirates a better copy to...
So people inside LucasFilm haven't been trying to convince him? Couldn't the "Last Chance" VHS & LD sales be used to convince him? If they have tried (which I'm sure they have) then, my conclusion is that there's no convincing him. Only when the money stops coming in and he can't continue...
That's a good point. I was not aware of this (due to my lack of Cable TV or HDTV). I agree that once everyone has widescreen TVs anamorphic will be demanded. Until that time, we (HT people) are a small minority.
This maybe a good thing. 1) We HT people do not have to purchase this sub par release. 2) If this release is a test of consumer demand for the originals then there will be plenty of people buying them (except most HT people). 3) With so many people purchasing them LucasFilm will want to...
I wouldn't say shortsighted, however the manufacturer may have a different business model such as "low cost". And as I stated earlier, my logic and the logic of the manufacturer are two different things.
IMO, the TV manufacturer wouldn't have produced a TV without the feature if they didn't believe that anamorphic was now a standard characteristic of all currently produced DVDs. Then again this is my business logic, which may not apply to the manufacture of the TV.
This may actually be a good investment since they will go back into the Disney... ah I mean LucasFilm Vault at the end of December. Once they are out of circulation you could sell'em on eBay to collectors for potentially more than you paid for them.
This was mentioned earlier, but the best way to convince the "full screen" customer is to inform them that the originals will be in letterbox widescreen format. :P
A widescreen movie formatted on a 4:3 frame with black bars (AKA. non-anamorphic) will in fact require some form of zoom on either the TV or the DVD player in order to fill a widescreen TV. The DVD player stretches anamorphic DVDs automatically then properly displays the image for the 4:3 & 16:9...
Anamorphic benefits those with widescreen displays, while I do agree that it may not benefit picture quality. The resizing issue has been mentioned and the consensus is that some DVD players don't allow the zoom feature and that having the studio do any resizing would result in consistent and...
That is incorrect. What has been said in this thread is that this release should be anamorphic at a minimum. However, the consensus is that if LucasFilms is going to do it at all why not have a restoration of the originals (which is not a demand for a restoration). Furthermore, if you...
Not necessarily the video quality, but specifically the transfer method used to port the LD video to DVD. (non-anamorphic vs anamorphic) That is the sole reason this thread exists. As far as the LD idea, if you were not thinking of buying a LD player & the faces LDs before the announcement...
I saw an interview with Carrie Fisher once and she stated that she felt like GL was charging her every time she looked in the mirror because she was Leia. I'm sure everyone involved knows the character of GL. I think Harrison Ford would be less likely to care since he had a very successful...
I think, I've made it to that same conclusion as well. The cost to benefit ratio is real low for me on this release. I'll stick with what I have and If one day they do it right I'll reward them with a purchase.
