    HK avr-125 or 225

Just an additional note on HK and ecost. I am in the market for a low cost receiver for use in a workout/play room. I don't want to spend much and the AVR-125 looks like it might work well. I went to HK's web site to look at buying a refurb unit from them. I also looked at their authorized...

    Question about black bars...

Robert, thanks for the insight and fresh point of view. But I wonder if it really makes sense to send a message that it's OK to MAR a film if it's below a certain calibre. I would love to own Ace Ventura: Pet Detective but it's only available P&S. I am sure it isn't going to qualify as art...

Why short run tv shows could be a money maker for studios on dvd....

Action with Jay Mohr would be a prime candidate. I thought the show was great in it's early stages. Unfortunately I don't think it had the material to last several seasons. There are a lot of cases where a TV show (or Saturday Night Live skit) is made into a movie, but doesn't really work...

    Movies featuring non-lethal weapons

Well if you want "light and funny" I would go with the Pink Panther series. The Inspector and Cato used a variety of implements on each other.

HTF EARLY REVIEW: "Driven" - The next demo disc!

When I saw the previews for this movie something told me I didn't want to pay good $$$ to go see it. But now all this discussion makes me feel like I *have* to go rent it just to see what everyone is talking about. It takes a pretty bad movie to make me feel that I wasted 4 bucks on a movie...

Another Unjustified Claim That The New Onkyos Are Underpowered

Back when the Denon 3801 came out there was much discussion about rated vs actual power capacity. In one of these forums (I looked but couldn't find the post) a person who represented himself as an employee of Onkyo bashed Denon for overstating the receivers capabilities. He even reported...

    New Marantz receiver line

I have found Marantz's web site to be less the useful. I'm sure they will add the new receivers but I wouldn't expect to gain much insight from it. You will find better info here or by finding a dealer.

Loud hum with new SVS CS-Ultra. Help!

I'm NOT an electrician but here goes... The GFCI won't help since it's function is to detect current going from the hot wire to ground. Since the cheater plug is disconnecting the ground you are out of luck. The potential problem becomes that *you* might make an attractive path to ground...

New Marantz receivers may be the answer to my prayer.

RyanL, ES discrete simply means that the center rear information is from a separate channel, instead of being derived from the left and right surrounds (matrix). Whether a receiver has 1 or 2 center rear outputs, the information sent to them is the same. The value in one over the other would...
