What are you listening to right now?

With Amazon Prime's $72 sale, I now have Prime Music. So I cancelled Beats Music.. I like the interface and curators of Beats, but for sheer volume of tunes, I can't deny Amazon Prime. So I've been listening to classic country via Amazon Prime Music. Gotta love No Show Jones.

Blu-ray Review Downton Abbey: Season 5 Blu-ray Review

So now PBS is not the lesser of the broadcasts. Can we turn this around and detect where definite edits have occurred? The Jimmy scene was cut on the blu-Ray and the iTunes and the iTunes claims to be the UK version.

Blu-ray Review Downton Abbey: Season 5 Blu-ray Review

Thanks. Most of the cuts are a snippet here or there, like bits with the schoolteacher and Daisy. The one with Jimmy was just kind of odd since the broadcast PBS version had more than the home video version. And the only reason I noticed it was because I had just seen PBS ep 2 followed by iTunes.

Blu-ray Review Downton Abbey: Season 5 Blu-ray Review

Actually there's a cut in the UK version that appeared in the PBS version. This cut was also in the iTunes version, which claims to be the UK version. The cut scene is where Jimmy says goodbye to Anna and Mrs Hughes in the stairwell right before he expresses a rather fond farewell for Thomas...

What Hirez Discs Have You Purchased Recently?

By and large I would say that consumers don't care about quality. Digital Quality is an oxymoron. I like HDTracks a lot for the remastered brought to the table, and I am a fan of SACD/DVD-A when they are 5.1.

New DLP lamp fixed it, and brightened the picture considerably.

Right now it has a solid red light. I turn it on and it clicks rapidly 3 times, light goes solid green, color wheel spins, then it turns off.I have a replacement lamp that I can use, but there was no rapid clicking involved the last time I did it.

Ok I'm out of touch, but the ad from Ron's announcement thread looks like KMK is 2D only and the 3D version is separate.

I came into some Christmas money so I completed the 24/192 Simon & Garfunkel collection, and 24/96 Springsteen (Born to Run and Born in the USA). Happy ears.

Into The Woods (Stephen Sondheim) (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

I can confirm that the new blu-ray is MONO when the old DVD is stereo. It's clearly a different master, probably going back to the original broadcast. The reason I say that? The DVD starts with the title Into the Woods. The blu-ray starts with American Playhouse.

Into The Woods (Stephen Sondheim) (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

Mine showed up today along with Mr. Smith Goes To Washington. Rather than rehash an old transfer, Woods is linear PCM for sound and AVC for picture. It looks fine, perhaps as good as standard def material can.

I came across that recording of Pacific Overtures on YouTube...copied it before someone decided to pull it. There's also a fairly bad recording of Merrily We Roll Along out there with the original cast. It's amazing what you can find if you look hard enough. Oh yes, I found a pro-shot Hedwig...

Sands Of Iwo Jima In Theatres For One-Day Only

The B&B Theater in Texas is very close, but their idea of a giant screen is 50-feet wide. One nice feature in this auditorium is a balcony with recliners and food/drink service with an open bar.

I'm pretty sure I saw it in 70mm, too, at AMC Glen Lakes. AMC Glen Lakes was one of a handful of theaters in the area to project in 70mm.

    MOUNTAINS OF THE MOON

I saw this cold at the USA Film Festival in Dallas on their biggest screen. The violence really surprised me, then again I did not know this was an R-rated movie. I think the screening was before the MPAA rated it. Great film, must be seen in a big screen to fully appreciate it.
