Kind of a odd duck of a film. What I didn't expect was that it felt like it had more slo-mo than most Zack Snyder movies.:biggrin::biggrin:
I was left wondering if I liked any of the 3 main principal characters...
I remember seeing this as I was trying to catch up with the Best Picture nominees before the Oscars 2024 aired 1-2 months ago.
All in all, I just thought it got sillier and sillier as the movie rolled on, and I mostly rolled my eyes along with it. I give it 2.5 Meh's.
On Monday night, saw my first Screen Unseen movie at my nearest AMC via A-List, and it was advertised as being an R-rated movie, and it ended up being "Boy Kills World" which was very odd, and very violent. I was thinking of seeing it this Thursday, so that viewing clears away my Thursday...
"The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" was mostly devoid of characterization, so you rarely care about any of them in the movie. Last act was mostly murky outside footage.
While I take a bunch of photos as a hobby (as some small subset of HTFers know), so from that standpoint, some things in the film tickles my interest in the search of "that" photo in war zones as this film follows a small group of photographers and journalists. But the story that unfolds come...
MM was a very visceral movie-viewing experience, with a lot of fight violence and wacky chase theatrics. I just never got the idea the main character ever had any exit strategy while pursuing his mission with flashbacks to his youth fueling that mission. So, kind of an odd structure with...
Saw it in Dolby Cinema, G x K delivered what I expected, lots of monster action sequences, and minimal human subplots to stymie the flow of the movie. See it on the biggest screen, and loudest theater possible.
Sigh. I have Netflix (ad tier) and AppleTV via my T-Mobile cell phone magenta plan, so I don't actively pursue the question of "to subscribe or not to subscribe". But I don't much watch content with ads if I can help it, so the more the streaming channels stuff ads into the viewing experience...
On other social venues, it's funny to read about how parents aren't able to show this film to their children, even though it features Emma Stone, a 'favourite' amongst a younger demographic, and when they ignore the R rating, the rush to shut down the film is afoot as the film progresses. :):):)
I just hope Cousins doesn't go down for a number of games because I doubt the rest of the QB room will be able to put up productive numbers like Capt Kirk would.
When the AR is wider, your eyes will go left and right to take in the image on the screen. When the AR is taller, the image feels zoomed in and your eyes are more static while watching the film, giving that claustrophobic feel at times with the close-ups.
Used my AMC A-list to throw some more $$$ towards D2's box office tonight. I think I like the Dolby Cinema presentation a little more than the Faux-MAX presentation, just for the wider aspect ratio for this kind of film, more scope for its landscape shots.
Saw Dune 2 a second time at an AMC Faux-Max theater. For what I could tell, the aspect ratio remained the same throughout its running time and filled up the screen, guessing 1.85:1-ish (except when Margo was looking through her "binoculars/viewer", which made for a more tight, zoomed in field...
Saw it on a Dolby Cinema AMC theater. Lots of rumble in the seats, solid video presentation.
There was a lot of cover, and for the most part, the first 2/3 of the film are fine (solid composition featuring scope and scale), but the final third had me experiencing reactions I rarely get anymore...
It's mostly just the trailer from part 2 featuring Paul's attempt at riding the big sand worm creature as a rite of passage amongst the Fremen. There's a info card that last for about a minute before the start of the movie to alert attendees about the extended trailer at the end of the...
Sorry, mistype, just saw it in a Dolby Cinema presentation, not IMAX, so just on the big screen, not a really big and tall screen, appeared to be around 2:35:1 AR. I plan on seeing Dune part 2 on an AMC FauxMax screen in March.
Watched the Dune Part 1 reissue last night, and enjoyed the scope and scale and sound of the preview for part 2 after the credits. Very satisfying.
I'd forgotten how loud part 1 was with all of the musical cues and themes.
Over Christmas, I ended up looking around for a printer, was going to go with a laser printer (was getting tired of having to replace print heads due to ink drying out in the heads from lack of printing on a regular basis), but in the end, decided to give ink printers one more go, so I snagged a...
Saw it on AMC Imax with their upgraded laser projection, and it looks pretty colorful and sharp.
The movie had some patented Vaughn humor and laughs, but it is a bit too long, maybe chop out 15-20 minutes and it would have flowed better.
