Chris,
I understand that it needs a higher level input; however, the type of music I listen to is quite dynamic. I don't know if you are a Pink Floyd fan, but at the beginning of Dark Side fo the Moon there is a kick drum that starts out really faint and then gets stronger. As it gets...
Frank,
I am out of town on business right now and will back home on Friday. I will have to hack around and try to find an answer to your questions. Of course, you may have your own answer by then :) .
Danny
Frank,
Yes, a single channel is all you need. The 2 x 2 was the same price as a single channel unit when I bought it so I just got the 2 channel.
It doesn't have to be Midiman, any unit will work. There has to be a music store of decent size in Toronto :) .
Danny
Frank,
What Bruce is talking about I believe is the same thing that I have; but uses a parallel port instead of USB.
The one I have is made by Midiman also; and, I got it at Guitar Center. It's called the USB Midisport 2 x 2. However, any music store (keyboard oriented) will have them. I...
Rick,
If you are concerned about it, then you may want to go by Home Depot and pick up a piece of aluminum. They sell 2" x 1' lengths. Cutting and trimming is easy. Use the hole pattern in the ears to line up screw holes for the blank plates.

If you are interested, Yamaha will sell you a service manual for about 18 bucks. I just got one for my RX-V1 and it has component level schematics.

I tried 3 of the 8024's. As far as full spectrum, it's garbage. The quantization at low volumes will drive you nuts!! It also adds another A/D D/A conversion at the preamp output. IMO, Behringers A/D and D/A converters suck. It works fine with subs because the sampling frequency is high...
You can pick up a USB to MIDI adapter box at any music store for about 50 bucks. I use the USB port on my laptop to configure the BFD. It beats dragging out the desktop :) .

I have the Bello stands with the S-38's. The top is a bit small for the speakers, but I have made an easy mod to dress them up and stabilize them. Check out the link:

Danny
Ray,
I'm using the Sony surround wireless headphones with a RX-V1. What I do is set up my zone 2 output to fixed volume and plug up my wireless headset to that output. This has other advantages. You just turn your main volume all the way down; or even mute it. What ever source you choose...
I'm using:
Fronts S-312
Center S-Center
Rears S-38's
Rear Center S-38's (2)
Front Effect channels S-38's
I have a Yamaha RX-V1 so that is why I have the 2 extra pair.
In my opinion, the S-series is a way under rated speaker line. Although the S-312's sound good, I think the...
I just started playing with the Home Memory Banks on my RX-V1. It allows different configurations for speaker calibrations and other settings. I like to watch concert DVD's without the center speaker. IT was a bit troublesome flipping around on my Marantz RC5000 remote to turn off the center...
Go to your local plant store. You will find several chemicals that bother the crap out of cats. There is one that I used to keep them out of my house plants. It's gellitin based and green. I can't remember the name of it. Anyway, it is rather potent but the smell is very local so you won't...
I have always waited till the new stuff comes out and the prices of the old gear drops. Example, when the Onkyo TXDS989 was released I picked up the Onkyo TXDS939 for 675 bucks. That receiver was in the 2k range. Recently, I picked up the Yamaha RX-V1 for $850. So now I have 2 flagship...
Donny,
I didn't think of the eq in the Yammie. I run some Behringer 31 band eq's on all six channels so I just leave the Yammi's eq's flat.
I'll tell you what, those L100's are worth their weight in gold, IMO. A friend of mine agreed to sell me a pair he has had in storage for a few...
I have noticed precisly the same thing with my RX-V1. I am using:
Yamaha RX-V1
JBL S-312 fronts
JBL S-center
JBL S-38 Surrounds
JBL S-38 Front Effects
2 JBL S-38's Rear Center
2 Polk Audio PSW 650 subwoofers (2- right and left)
I keep my system at Mains Large and Sub to Both...
Martin,
It won't be a problem. Your receiver amplifier's input is just a dry input to that particular channel of the amplifier. Once you disconnect the link from the pre amp to the amp, you are free to use that amplifier channel for anything you want. Even an independent outside source...
Ted,
The cable company has an earth ground in their splitter at the street. Your system has an earth ground tied to your neutral at your breaker panel. Ground is simply a common reference point for a given circuit. If there is any difference between your cable ground and house ground, then...
I would also check:
1) That none of your audio line level interconnects are running in close proximity to any wall warts (the transformer power supplies that plug into the wall). Also make sure none are draped across the power supply section of other components.
2)Remove your cable signal...
Scott,
The only thing that I can think of at this point is that the the e-prom is most likly battery backed up non-volitile ram. The symptoms you report sound exactly like the battery used to hold the NVR has died. I have not yet opened up mine to see what kind of battery is used, but it is...
When you edit a parameter, you have to hit STORE twice. If you only hit it once it stores the changes to ram only. Once power is turned off it loses the settings. Hitting STORE the second time writes it to e-prom.
Danny
I would say take the subway and go down there. I've been there a few times and the people are very pleasant to deal with. Most of the stuff they sell, they have there on site. The store front is a bit small but they had the speakers I came for. They even loaned me a dolly because my car was...
IT depends how accurate you want to be and what information that you want to gain from the measurements. To do it properly for the entire spectrum, you would need a volt meter, ammeter, and some type of tone generator. Since a passive crossover is somewhat of an unpredictable dynamic load, it...
Dan,
I see and understand your point. In fact, I was adding the second paragraph in my post while you were posting your reply. The problem is that the consumer level (- 10 dbv ) is in my opinion way to low to wake up the input stage of the amp. It is much (notice I said much :) ) better...
I'm looking for the 50 watt version; 2 pair. I live in central New Jersey and only wish to deal with a real store not an internet company.
Thanks,
Danny
