One I'm surprised no one posted yet: the new release of Tron.

    Trailers Ruin Movies

Course, there are a lot of times when scenes in the trailer end up on the cutting room floor. That's happened a few times. (Scott Pilgrim Vs The World is the most recent example of something like that.)

    Netflix goes bat@#%@ insane, it's $16 a month now if you want to keep 1 DVD + streaming, $18 for 1 B

Not really so clever, considering the mix of responses to how people are reacting to this news. If they wanted people to cut the DVD plan for streaming, their plan backfired for the most part, and that's mostly due to the lack of content online. Now, the reaction from me is to can the...

What's the most you've spent on a music disc?

I didn't realize that there was a version with the full audio. Most I paid was $50 for the special edition of Kevin Gilbert's "Shaming Of The True".

Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

I kinda understand why that's there, because they wanted some good reason for him to wear the costume. But, I think I would rather have him fight Nazis. Personally, I enjoyed the film (at least, what I saw of it. I missed the end because I got a call from the people caring for my son...

Cars 2 (3D Blu-ray combo) (Blu-ray Combo) available for Preorder on Amazon

Actually, there has been so many deals on Disney Blu-rays that they have made it easy to buy them. (For example, the Tron/Tron Legacy combo and Cars/Incredibles combo both were irresistable to me.)

Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

It is something that bugs my wife as well. We haven't gotten around to seeing it (Maybe on Friday), but the trend of Marvel to delete Nazis from the continuity bothers her. They did a similar thing in the Avengers animated series, where Cap is fighting against Hydra, not the Nazis.

What are you playing right now?

Playing a lot of stuff right now: PS3: Heavenly Sword (almost done), Valkrya Chronicles, Rock Band 3, Lego Harry Potter 1-4 Wii: Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess PC: Knights Of The Old Republic and lots of other smaller games.

Let the buying begin... 2011 B&N Criterion sale (50% off) begins Tuesday, July 12

I mostly went to fill up on some of the Kurosawa that I don't own yet. (Yojimbo/Sanjuro two pack and Kagemusha) I was tempted by The Mikado as well, but the reviews weren't the greatest for it, so I passed. At one time I wanted Black Narcissus, but I've since seen it on TCM and I'm unsure...

    Trailers Ruin Movies

Like it was going to be a really complex plot. What I get from both the teaser and the trailer is basically the same thing: cowboys fighting off an invasion of aliens. The only real addition of information is about one character who didn't appear much in the teaser who seems to have some...

What Are Some of the Best Commentary Tracks?

It is on the DVD. Personally, I find all Kevin Smith commentary tracks entertaining because he doesn't really take himself too seriously. I haven't seen too many commentary tracks recently, but I thought Edgar Wright's track for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World was pretty entertaining.

The official WORST STUDIO COVER ART thread. Post your worst covers!

You know, I scratch my head sometimes at people thinking that a design that was great for one medium (movie posters) would always be an appropriate one for a much smaller DVD/Blu-ray cover. Granted, there are plenty of awful examples of DVD covers here where the original poster art would have...

    Netflix goes bat@#%@ insane, it's $16 a month now if you want to keep 1 DVD + streaming, $18 for 1 B

That's a problem relatively unique to Tivo. With the game consoles, you don't have that limitation. You can browse and search and watch stuff without adding it to your queue.

Report: Blu-ray Sales Falling Short Of Expectations Even As Prices Decline. Are you still buying?

Whenever I hear 'CGI is unreal', my reaction is that most effects will be 'unreal' because the level of belief isn't going to be there. Most aren't going to believe that a man is going to swing on a web across Manhattan, no matter what effects are used. Course, when it is used appropriately...

    Trailers Ruin Movies

I don't know about you, but the trailer for 2012 pretty much told me not to waste my money on this film. In this day and age where everything gets discussed to the nth degree, it is hard to avoid spoilers for basic plot elements. That being said, if the movie is good, it doesn't really...

Yes, kids, there will be a Toy Story 4

To be honest, when you reach a certain point these days, sequels are going to happen. You have a large amount of IP which you can leverage that people will want to come see. Even before Disney, Pixar was a public company and it would be easier to go to shareholders and say that sequel X is in...

    Netflix goes bat@#%@ insane, it's $16 a month now if you want to keep 1 DVD + streaming, $18 for 1 B

I'm a little surprised some are saying "no big deal" when it is the second price hike in a year. My reaction to the first was to go down to 2 discs from 3. My reaction to this is to get rid of DVDs entirely and just go streaming. Fact is I've been watching streaming a lot more lately than the...

    Green Hornet news...

That's basically how I read it too. I had some doubts when Rogan was cast, and the trailer gets me about halfway there. I will have to see how Rogan grows into the Green Hornet and see if he's believable in doing that. There wasn't much in the trailer that spoke to that.

    HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

Wow, this is sad. I'm away from the board for a few weeks, and only 4 new posts in this thread? I actually just finished off "Anime Runner Kuromi 2" last night. More of the same, really, but it is pure Daichi goodness. I'm also working my way through Scrapped Princess right now and finished...

*** Official THE JANE AUSTEN BOOK CLUB Review Thread

My wife, the big Jane Austin fan, is really down on this movie because of the whole "chick flick" thing. She feels that Austin has more offer than that, and hates when things get reduced to that. She'd rather curl up with P&P. Jason

    Pushing Daisies Season 1 thread

Even if there wasn't another episode of this show, the pilot episode was worth the price of admission. I was a little apprehensive about the potential angst in having a loved one that you couldn't touch, but they hit the right note there. I agree, tho, that they may have a hard time keeping...

    Bionic Woman season 1 thread

    Blake's 7: Region One?

Whatever happened to classical music radio in SF bay area?

Classical stations all over the place are hurting. Here in DC, the local classical station got bumped from their frequency in favor of a news station. They are now on a weaker signal, which Dan Snyder tried to buy for his radio network, but that deal fell through. My wife ended up going with XM...

A film you think is underrated, and critically ignored.

Another one I thought of: The Quick And The Dead. Most of Sam Raimi's films are underrated, but this one in particular is overlooked because it isn't a genre film, but it does a pretty good job telling a small story with his usual splashy effects. Sam is also blessed with a lot of great actors...

A film you think is underrated, and critically ignored.

And you will never see "Country Roads" in the same light again. ;) Yeah, WotH is probably the most underrated Studio Ghibli film, probably because it wasn't directed by Takahata or Miyasaki. My entry: Nightbreed. For years I didn't see it because it was mis-marketed as a horror/slasher film...

    Life season 1 thread

To be honest, it felt more like Monk rather than House, with everyone having to deal with his odd behavior. Personally, I found it to be a bit too odd and not what I was expecting. Maybe I'll get used to it after a while. Jason
