Your question is hard to answer. Having no idea what your main use for the STB will be. What set you are hooking it to?
The sony will allow your set to handle the Aspect ratio control instead of the STB. I see the doubler in a STB as a downside. Your set should have a better doubler...
Gscott from AVS forum posted that he called Sony today. The gal on the line of course said "next month". He pushed her about the never ending "next month" promise. She then told him they had just received a batch from japan.

Someone posted on another board AVS I think. They were in a local store recently and the manager said the Sony Rep was their earlier that day. The Rep told them a shipment of 950 units was received from Japan.

The comment made about the MPAA applies to all STB's including last years Rca dtc-100. So as far as im concerned that is not a stopper for the sony or any other for that matter. Either we buy one and live with it or sit around and complain and not have any HD. Im over it, im gonna enjoy...

I agree. Companies like Mits do not make haphazard statements and put them in writing. I am fully aware the module included 5C protection. But the point of the whole "promise module" is that the set would not be obsolete. So they will make a module that can decode whatever protection scheme...
