Moving to new apartment... not sure if it has enough power

I'm moving to a new apartment next week, and while I've spent many hours planning on where to put the HT, I was checking out the circuit breaker today and discovered it only has 47 Amps for the whole place. It's only a studio apartment, so I was expecting less than 100 Amps, but this is crazy. I...

Advice on a system for my Aunt and Uncle

For the winter holidays I've organized my family to get an HT system for my aunt and uncle. We gave it to them on Channukah as a complete surprise. Paradigm Atoms all around w/the CC-170 and PBR-8. The system sounds amazing in my opinion. The only issue is that my aunt doesn't like the size of...

    Time to take the plunge?

Living in a studio apartment that is more like a glorified closet, I'm trying to find ways to increase the amount of free space. I'm thinking about getting rid of my TV and replacing it with a front projector to open up my room significantly. The Sanyo Z2 looks like highest probability for the...

    Subwoofer vibrating the door

I'm in need of some help from the experts on this one. I'm moving into a new apartment next week. Later on this week, I hope to have some pics posted to seek advice on the placement of everything (it's a studio apartment in Manhattan) but before I even get to that point, I know that the...

Please help me build a system for a friend

A friend of mine is looking to build a small HT system on a very limited budget. He's already got a TV and DVD player, but needs speakers and a receiver. Since he's on a budget i was thinking of just reccommending the LR speakers and the receiver for now, and then having him upgrade the rest...

Probably a touchy subject, but WHY??

Why is there a difference between any two cd/dvd players in audio if you're using them as digital transports only? It would seem to me that a digital signal would be the same coming out of any source, since error wouldn't be tolerated. I mean if a computer cd was read with errors, a program...

    Question about cables

When a cable is listed as being 50 or 75 ohms, what exactly does that mean? I connected a video composite cable to an ohmmeter today to see what it's impedance would be registered as. I expected to read somewhere between 50 and 100 ohms... but the meter would vary between .6 and 1.3 ohms...
