It's not defeatable. On some of the earlier models, the TS1000, the hard buttons didn't turn on the touchscreen. Somewhere along the line they implemented this "feature" and now they're all like that. Jim L
I don't think there are any cheap ones. I've heard of a "Leapfrog" made by Terk. It clips over the front of your remote and sends the signals out via RF. I've never used it, or even seen it, so I can't vouch for it's reliability. Shoud be perfect for your application if it works as advertised...
But, the Mx-600 only uses RF to communicate with it's base station, it won't control his ceiling fan, they're undoubtedly different RF frequencies. Even if the frequencies were the same (unlikely) no universal remote is capable of learning RF commands. Jim L
I used to have a Motorola DCT 2224 box with a digital coax (SPDIF) out connection. However, it never was able to pass a DD 5.1 signal, PCM only. When I went to Motorola's website looking for info, the manual for the 2224 states that it will pass a digital audio signal. In contrast, the manual...
The volume control would be a bit tricky. A macro could be set to send volume up or down commands several times but it depends on what the volume was at to begin with. Some receivers have discrete codes for preset volume levels, Yamaha's better receivers for example, but most gear does not. You...
Greg:
That's exactly what RF capable remotes like the Mx-800, Mx-600 and some of the Pronto models do. They come with a base station that converts the RF to IR and then distributes the IR to your gear either with the stick on emitters or with the base station functioning as an IR blaster. I...
If you like touchscreens, the 7000 is a good choice. You might trot on over to remotecentral.com and review some of the posts in the Pronto NG forum. There's a newcomer in the touchscreen market due to be released shortly. The Mx-3000 put out by Home Theater Master, the makers of the popular...
Yes, discrete codes exist for Sony inputs. Exactly what you need, and where to get them depends on what remote you intend to use. There's a wealth of information at remotecentral.com including a files area with codes. Jim L
Nope, it means you can receive over the air HD broadcasts without a set top box to decode them. Cable companys encode their signals using a different method which your ATSC tuner won't be able to decode - you need their box. Jim L
If you want to see the actual repair procedure, here's a link: http://www.hometheaterspot.com/htsth...ue#Post432518. If the resistors need to be replaced, that's done first. There have been several instances of the flicker returning up to a year after the repair. Sony has, to the best of my...
I had mine repaired a little over a year ago. Been fine ever since. It's better to call Sony, they're very familiar with the problem. The warrantee has been extended to cover this problem on certain sets. See here: http://products.sel.sony.com/SEL/ser...flicker.shtml. An in-home repair takes...
Go to remotecentral, here: http://remotecentral.com/features/clicker.htm and use their "Clicker Picker". Then read the reviews, both formal and user reviews. Based on a quick look, the Sony RMVL900 might be a better choice for you than the 700. Jim L
Bought 2 RCA's, the same day, on sale at Sears several years ago, a 25" and a 35". The 25" made it about 4 months - just out of warrantee. Had a bad tuner board, needed resoldering. The 35" made it about 6 months, had the identical problem. Each repair cost about $125. 4 different RCA...
I don't believe that the Motorola 2000 series will process or output a 5.1 signal. It will (with the SPDIF coax output) put out a digital signal, but it's PCM stereo. At least that was my experience with that box. The Motorola 5100 box (which I now have) will output 5.1 if it's broadcast as...
It's not a good idea to run outdated AV software with no subscription - new bugs appear all the time. The best freeware AV software I've seen is AVG from Grisoft and it puts out updates at least monthly. Several reviews I've seen rate it well. Check here: http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl7.php...
I don't own a Kameleon, but it's probably not what you want. You can't add buttons to it's display, so you're stuck with whatever functions it has for a particular device. It would have "menu" and "volume" however. Most people would probably agree that the Cadillac would be an Mx-500 in the...
Brian, Thought you might like this, it's the Sony procedure for replacing the CRT's. Additionally there are some resistors that MAY have to be soldered in first, depends on what resistors are already installed. 1. Replace the green CRT first. It is the reference color. If the set had...
There have been a lot of good and bad experiences with flicker repair. Mostly, it depends on the technician who services your set. In my case, the experience was very positive. I would suggest, that you insist on in-home repair, it's supposed to be done in-home, but this hasn't always been...
Perhaps he can see into the IR spectrum in the same manner he uses sound waves??? Might make a good question for the Marvel guys at a comic convention. :D Jim L
David, The Pronto with the optional RF base runs about $350, the 600 comes with the base and runs about $250. I'd probably recommend the 600 unless you really enjoy spending a lot of time learning to setup, play with graphics, and program a remote using the computer software. I'm a...
David, You're welcome. The easiest/quickest solution for what you asked, is to go to Radio Shack and get a pair of their pyramids (sp?). With these you should be able to use whatever remote you currently have. Place one of them in the room with your remote and the other in the room that has...
Unless your ceiling fan is IR controlled, you're out of luck. Can you control the fan from another room (through walls), if so it's RF, not IR. Very few IR controlled fans exist. No universal remote will control an RF device directly. Those universals advertised as RF capable only use RF to...
Here's a link for the hotlink http://www.smarthome.com/8225.html, might be more than you need. I'd call Smarthome (or another distributer) and discuss your needs with them. Jim L
The Mx-500 has pretty powerful IR emitters - 12 feet should be no sweat. This suggests one of two things: 1 - Learn the codes directly into the 500, or learn them again if you learned them initially. When you do, first try just a short tap on the OEM remote. If that doesn't work, try a press...
Yohan, Yeah, I've used the 1000 since shortly after it came out, back in 1999. I currently own a Marantz 9200 (color). I don't own a 3000. As far as a complete redesign is concerned, I guess it's a matter of opinion. The buttons that were added (cursor control) first appeared on the Marantz...
Yohan, Respectfully I must disagree with a few of your points. While it's true that initially the 3000 was VERY buggy, recent releases of software/firmware have steadily improved the situation. Historically, every version of the Pronto has gone this cycle. The TS-1000 was buggy initially as...
Additionally, 16 color grey scale vs 4 color on the 1000/2000 gives you a much better image. Just a word of warning however, if you've never programmed one of these, be prepared to spend a LOT of time on it. Pronto Edit is not that user friendly, and even after you master it, getting the...
James, There has been an issue with the COLOR prontos (TSU-6000 and Marantz RC-9200) overheating the remote, not the base. But, it's only been reported 4 or 5 times over at remotecentral.com. In none of these cases has permanent damage been done. With the Black and White models, there was...
