I think I want one of these to complement a cheap stereo channel preamp. This is a cheap option believe me because otherwise I'd be after a McLaren or Integra Research.
However I do not know if they offer a 240v version and I feel...
Just keep the volume down. Even if you use power hungry speakers like 3-4 ohm units, you should be able to run it off a cheap junk Sony receiver as long as you don't wind the volume up. T.
To play the devil's advocate... I'm sure Parasound gave them all the free equipment they wanted in return for THX licensing. I have a Parasound btw. so I'm not biased. T.
Marantz have never put their manuals up in PDF format. Since their RC2000 remotes are so popular and so complex, you would think they would oblige. "This may be the last Marantz product I buy. I really think their quality is top notch but the customer service is horrible." Agree 110% on...
If you've been in HT and music for as long as many people here, you bring your own set of prejudices and biases. Heck many people were in HT before the birth of DVD, even at the introduction of this great new format called "Dolby AC-3 Digital Surround" on laserdisc. So with that out of the...
Do people here have comprehension problems? This is what I wrote: "I have never seen an THX Surround EX products that were less than 7.1 decoded channels." This is what I didn't write: "I have never seen an THX Surround EX products that were less than 7.1 encoded channels." See...
If your unit has THX Surround EX well then you really have no need for Dolby EX. I have never seen an THX Surround EX products that were less than 7.1 decoded channels. I may have seen some Dolby EX products with 7.1 but most were 6.1 from memory. I could be wrong... T.
Ummm... THX Surround EX 7.1 (ie. two matrix rears) Dolby Digitial EX 5.1 (ie. one matrix rear center) Isn't that the difference? Are there Dolby EX products with 7.1? T.
What Chris says is essentially correct. THX Surround 7.1 came out about the same time as dts-ES. There was to be a Dolby EX but they scrapped it perhaps wanting to push THX as the success to ac3 5.1 - I remeber a handful of EX products coming out very early that were then scrapped. THX proved...
I dunno about you guys but I would take this one over any Japanese receiver. On the power front, it would outdo all of the above I would imagine. Look at the internal shots. I would also like the NAD T762 which is like this AVR8000 in features but not price. T.
What is the motivation I wonder for the big manufacturers to make competitively priced preamps?
Next thing you know Pioneer, Onkyo, Yamaha etc. will be all following Denon's lead.
What a world that would be :D
T.
"The presence of the 950 and the 1066 surely hasn't collapsed the audio industry yet!"
Yeah but these two suffer the same problem - ie. limited distribution, in the case of the 950, VERY LIMITED :D
I can wander down to any store and buy an Onkyo SR700 or Yamaha V1300... BIG DEAL. When I can...
This is just my opinion and prejudices and neuroses. Out of these four, I take the Onkyo. Here's my reasoning... The Denon is getting old and about to be replaced. It lacks EX, lacks enough digital inputs for me and the remote is horrid. I don't like Yamaha. Never have and like the...

There are some changes of course, but also a fair bit of carry over such as the truly hopeless remotes (the RC1200 isn't bad though). Some may also question the effacy of a 9.7kg package that develops 6 x 80w...
When...
Kris,
You must realise that this is a reasonably high demand 'boutique' item.
I would be lucky to even get a silver one here. let alone get any discount.
T.
NAD and Marantz both have had their QA issues. The T762 is a THX Ultra receiver a bit higher up than the 7200. I've also heard the T762 won't be out 'til next year. Up to you, both are nice. I would go with NAD simply because it is the better unit. T.
