Like you, I don't think that any real new ground will be broken here. I think the main attraction of this documentary is the nostalgia factor and the fact that so many of the principal actors and production team came together to make it happen. Except for Weaver, who's absence leaves a huge hole...
I'd be very interested to hear why Sigourney Weaver isn't a BIG part of this project. Personal reasons? Money? Scheduling conflicts? Just not interested? Some weird Cameron thing?
Anyway, at $99 + shipping for the physical release, I'm also hoping that a pared-down set will eventually be...
Thanks for the correction. WHat's most interesting to me about those numbers is the growth of CDs. Anyway, to me, it's still about the dollars. Declining or not, physical video sales are still generating big revenue, and to use Target as an example, I doubt they're going to be making serious...
I just did some googling myself. According to RIAA data, vinyl revenues in 2023 totaled $632 million and accounted for 74% of all physical music sales, so LPs are outselling CDs by a large margin. Not surprising, since CD sales have been on the decline for many years.
Meanwhile, total sales of...
Interesting Josh, but I still can't believe that vinyl outsells movies/TV shows on DVD, Blu-ray, AND 4K UHD at Target/Target.com. Video on physical media may be a niche market, but vinyl is a niche of a niche. Can you cite references and data?
All this may well be true, but I simply can't imagine that DVD/Blu-ray/4K physical media is MORE of a nice market than vinyl. No way. Yet we have a retailer like Target that's now carrying vinyl and possibly ditching movies on disc? Makes little sense to me.
Reviews are nothing but opinions. YOU, however, haven't actually seen the film, so how can you possibly make meaningful, informed comments about it? You can't. Yet here you are.
But did you actually clean it or does it just LOOK clean? Many times a disc will appear to be fine, but cleaning it will resolve a playback issue anyway. It costs nothing to try it and see what happens.
I just popped my copy in to check. Menus loaded normally and the film started normally. I skipped around a few chapters with no issues. Player is a Panasonic UB9000.

Here are a couple of shots. The first is at maximum eclipse here in Phoenix - 11:18AM local time, taken with an iPhone 13 Pro Max through a 104mm refractor telescope.
The second is a colander acting as a pinhole camera, projecting dozens of little eclipse images onto our pool deck.
My wife and I rented a lovely house in Ketchum, Idaho, directly in the path of totality, for the 8/21/2017 total eclipse. We observed the event (which was absolutely SPECTACULAR!), then got married that afternoon!! I had my telescopes set up and my wife had two fully automated full-frame cameras...
