A Few Words About A few words about…™ Lawrence of Arabia - in 4k UHD Blu-ray

This one release alone may be enough to get me to upgrade my projector to 4k.

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Lawrence of Arabia -- in 4k/UHD Blu-ray

Well, I'm certainly not trying to be coy intentionally. As you may (or may not) know, I had some serious issues with BD.com and the way that it was being run, moderated, and things that were allowed to be said/done by a certain group of posters and not others. I have not posted on BD.com...

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Lawrence of Arabia -- in 4k/UHD Blu-ray

Penton has not ever worked for a "third part house that Sony did some contracting with".

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Lawrence of Arabia -- in 4k/UHD Blu-ray

Thanks Jason, good to see you here too. Long time no talk! El Aurens has been my avatar here and at AVS for a *very* long time (even before BD/HD-DVD were in existence). I've been longing for Lawrence on BD since the format was released. However, unlike many others, I have not bitched...

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Lawrence of Arabia -- in 4k/UHD Blu-ray

There you go. And Penton was/is friends with Paidgeek. My assumption is that the majority of what could be considered "inside information" that has been posted by Penton came from Paidgeek.

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Lawrence of Arabia -- in 4k/UHD Blu-ray

By the way, I would add to my above post by stating that Penton *was* responsible for getting the real Sony insider "Paidgeek" to post at AVS. Paidgeek had no problem being certified as an insider at AVS. Ah....the irony.

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Lawrence of Arabia -- in 4k/UHD Blu-ray

Actually everyone's first clue should have been way back when he tried to become certified as an "insider" at AVS and it didn't happen. They required certain references in order to confirm insider status. Plenty of true insiders were able to provide the limited information being requested to...

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Lawrence of Arabia -- in 4k/UHD Blu-ray

I honestly can't believe that it took this long for someone at Sony to call him out.

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - Extended Edition -- in Blu-ray

That sums it up about as well as it could be summed up! I very much appreciate the *reasonable* moderation that I have seen exercised here recently by Ron and others.

I think you probably could (should) have added the words "with a few notable exceptions" to the end of that statement.

    Dersu Uzala

All the more reason for them to "get on with it" already! ;)

    Dersu Uzala

Well, that's great news. If that is the case, then whoever has the rights should "get on with it" already! ;)

    Aye carumba!

    Dersu Uzala

I would absolutely love to see this done. Dersu Uzala is an amazing film, and I consider it one of Kurosawa's most underrated pieces of work. The DVD is pretty bad, and really not watchable on my projection system. A new transfer of this great film on Blu-ray would be fantastic news indeed.

Ditto that! Great looking title, and an excellent movie. For another great foreign title (I even prefer it over Black Book) that Sony has released on Blu-ray (that also looks excellent) I highly recommend The Lives of Others!

Official HTF HD Review: Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind

Even though it doesn't sound like the PQ is great on this one, I will probably still pick it up because I love the movie so much.

Impressions of my new JVC DLA-RS1 Front Projector

I've had my JVC RS1 for a couple of months now, and I am extremely happy with it. For a LCoS based display, it is much sharper than prior LCoS projectors such as the Pearl and Ruby. It is more "DLP like" in that regard. And of course the contrast ratio is a new breakthrough for digital...

Pioneer Elite BD player delayed until Spring '07

What that Pioneer demo does is show what the player (and display) are capable of. Remember, that was HD video, not film. Don't expect movies on Blu-ray or HD-DVD to look like that demo. They won't.

Pioneer Elite BD player delayed until Spring '07

As far as using the receiver to decode DTS-HD etc: here is the issue- if the disc is authored in advanced mode (virtually all of them are), then the PLAYER must decode the audio format internally before sending it to the receiver! So, buy a PLAYER that can decode the audio formats internally...

Pioneer Elite BD player delayed until Spring '07

Good post Bruce. I had promised myself that I wouldn't buy one of these expensive players until they could do the audio decoding. I caved, largely due to the fact that I have ordered a new projector that accepts a 1080p24 signal, so I wanted a BD player that could send that signal directly to...

Pioneer Elite BD player delayed until Spring '07

This whole mess with the new audio codecs is enough to drive one crazy. I am having anxiety attacks worrying about it! I just ordered the Pioneer Elite BD player too, even though it currently doesn't decode any of the new audio formats. I am hoping they enable this ability with a...

Pioneer Elite BD player delayed until Spring '07

The most ironic thing is the fact that the PS3 decodes Dolby TrueHD, but there are no Blu-ray discs encoded with a TrueHD soundtrack (that I am aware of).
