http://www.audioexcellence.com/denon-avr-3805.html check this one out. $906 I purchased a Sony Wega Tv from them a couple ayears ago. They were good to deal with.
I gotta say I enjoy reading S&V although I too wish that had more reviews of middle of the road products because this the market I usually shop. After having a Denon 4800 die 2 months out of warranty on me, I kinda leery of laying out serious dough on high end items.
I think John Garcia gave you the best advice by steering you to Marantz & Onkyo. 2 reliable brands as far as receivers go. To give you a point of reference I have a Denon, but have audtioned recievers from both Marantz & Onkyo.
If you are really sold on a Sony, I will make a suggestion order...
If you can get a Pronto for $129 I'd say go for it. I spent over $300 (including charger on mine) It has infinite customability & is very user friendly (at least as user friendly as you program it to be) I have a a typical home theater setup & with the help of macro buttons & some icons my...
Even if you did buy one of the HD/Direct Tv boxes (for price reasons), you do not need to subscribe to Direct TV. You can actually use 6000 w/out being a Dish subsciber too, but you still have to have a Dish pointed at the Satellite.
I don't think Dish is ever (well any time soon any way)...
I too, am very pleased with my 501. It is a wonderful thing. My only complaint is you can not record external sources (ie. antenna) & b/c of that I added local networks to my programming
Steve,
I did not realize that it still passed a signal if it is a non-DD source.
Thanks,

I have to agree with John, Marantz is probably one of the best for music sources (I have a Denon 4800, but I looked into Marantz before buying my Denon)
But for the best bargain out there I would have to give the nod to Outlaw unit.

If you had one, you would know. 32" HDTV ready would set you back $1600-1700 USD. Unless, you spent that kind of money (or you got a spectacular deal) it is not a HDTV capable set.

Anyone correct me if I am wrong, but all new STBs that decode Sat HD also decode OTA signals as well.
Now a question of my own, do the RCA DCT-100 and the Toshiba DST3000 require you to be a Direct TV subscriber? If they do are there any others that do not?
after seeing all the problems with other players, not just panasonic, I am inclined to stick with my sony 7700 & buy an Iscan once I get a HDTV in the next few months
I have the Micro 90x speakers & I love them (but now that I moved and have a bigger theater room, I am eyeballing the 950s) When I was looking I compared them to Energy & Mirage speakers. The other 2 seemed entirely too bright. The BAs also seemed to much more accurate sounding.

I just bought a house in Burlington Twp. so I guess I will be in the same boat as you, if I decide to go the cable tv route. I am looking at getting Mits HDTV & was wondering what the cable signal was like.
