Can anyone tell me if the Uni DVD-As have the same problem with the Pioneer DV-563A that the Warner ones do? I never got mine updated and would like to know this before I invest in the DVDA or wait for an SACD.

Ah, I see. I had always heard that the film rights to LOTR were sold, but not The Hobbit....which makes sense. Otherwise how could the Rankin-Bass one have ever been made? (duh!) So I suppose it's now MGM and how much $$$ they want out of it.

Now I'm sure I just missed something, but I seem to recall that Christopher Tolkien was preventing The Hobbit from being filmed. Did he agree and now it's MGM that's the issue?

I guess I don't know for sure, but when I mentioned on the Saabnet that I was looking at a 2001 9-5, I was told by a couple of people about this issue. I'll have to check into it further as it seems like one of the most common liabilities of the 4 cyl engine.

Nice pictures...very nice. Actually, I'm surprised how many Saabs I see here in MN where heated seats are also quite popular! I already got responses at the saabnet and it seems that both engines have issues....timing belts on the 6 and some ignition cassette thing...time to compare the two...

I realize that this isn't about the DVD per se, but does the new restored print that's making the rounds in theaters right now have "the look" of the original or has it been "modernized"?

Has anyone been able to tell how this machine handles de-interlacing of non-film sources? Or improperly flagged film sources? There doesn't seem to be any way to set the output for one or the other. I haven't noticed anything awry, but I don't have another progressive machine to compare it to.

So far I've been pretty happy with the 563--but then again, my ES Sony receiver can't do hi-rez surround so I'm only running this thing in 2 ch mode. It also has a better picture than the interlaced Pioneer I used before. All in all, it seems like a great deal for what it costs.

I had the same thing happen with the remote on my Pioneer DVL-919, which I've left in the system to play LDs...I've unplugged it for now but I might just have to put tape over the IR sensor or something. It's too bad these don't have selectable remote channels like the old Sony gear used to...
