A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Kodak Reels Film Digitizer-- in Kodak Vision

I recently used a local service (Minnesota), Saving Tapes, for some Super 8 (both sound and silent) and they came out very well. They did frame by frame scanning to 2k and it looks, to me anyhow, as good as the format can deliver. It was certainly more expensive than some of the larger companies...

What was your very first movie on physical media purchase?

This has been a fun thread! The first "movie" I got on physical media was likely the Super 8 digest version of Star Wars. Even though it was a fragment of the film, it was great to then-me. Beta: Star Trek 2 VHS: The Godfather LD: The Producers (old pan/scan version) DVD: L.A...

    Yamaha KX-1200 Cassette Deck

I love those old tape decks from that era-some great hardware. I had a K1000 a long time ago and it was fantastic.

Looking for drive recommendations for ripping

It's the same with MakeMKV-one time fee. If I had it to do over again, I'd likely go with a NAS that can run Plex but I had the Mini available. I usually don't store BDs uncompressed but often leave DVDs unsqueezed as I have noticed a little bit of difference in PQ and it's not a huge amount of...

Looking for drive recommendations for ripping

FWIW, here's what I have been doing for a while now. After going through a couple of external/laptop USB BD drives, I sprung for the OWC Mercury Pro enclosure which came with an LG desktop drive installed. The enclosure is really solid and the drive is quite speedy at getting through discs...

Pre-Order Star Trek: The Original 4-Movie Collection (4k UHD Combo) Available for Preorder

Thanks for reminding me of the "Sit Long..." event. I remember doing that in 1991 and it was a blast to see all of those movies theatrically again. Really takes me back.

***Official Xbox Next Discussion Thread - Broadcast Launch 3.12.05 Thread***

I currently don't own a console, but was considering an XBox (the current one)...now I'm wondering if I should wait. But there are several games out now I want to play and there doesn't seem to be any clear indication that they'll run on the 360. Will the current one go away before the new one...

Official **LIVE** Questions Transcript --- WB Chat (March 29, 2005)

Just a quick note to say I really enjoyed reading the transcript and hope I'll be able to join a future one. There was some great info on this chat, but I wish someone had asked them about Hamlet (1996), which I understand they own now.

Becks New Album to support DVD-A

Can anyone tell me if the Uni DVD-As have the same problem with the Pioneer DV-563A that the Warner ones do? I never got mine updated and would like to know this before I invest in the DVDA or wait for an SACD.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)

Ah, I see. I had always heard that the film rights to LOTR were sold, but not The Hobbit....which makes sense. Otherwise how could the Rankin-Bass one have ever been made? (duh!) So I suppose it's now MGM and how much $$$ they want out of it.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)

Now I'm sure I just missed something, but I seem to recall that Christopher Tolkien was preventing The Hobbit from being filmed. Did he agree and now it's MGM that's the issue?

    Used Saab or new VW???

I guess I don't know for sure, but when I mentioned on the Saabnet that I was looking at a 2001 9-5, I was told by a couple of people about this issue. I'll have to check into it further as it seems like one of the most common liabilities of the 4 cyl engine.

    Used Saab or new VW???

Nice pictures...very nice. Actually, I'm surprised how many Saabs I see here in MN where heated seats are also quite popular! I already got responses at the saabnet and it seems that both engines have issues....timing belts on the 6 and some ignition cassette thing...time to compare the two...

    Used Saab or new VW???

Jason, I will indeed check into the source you suggest. I still have a few weeks before I'm ready to buy. I will definately try the 4 cyl/auto. Although this car will be replacing my Honda for hauling, it's our 99 Camry that we've decided to sell off (leaving the Accord for in-town duties)...

    Used Saab or new VW???

Hi Scott, Thanks for the info about the dealership. I'm getting "ready" to do the research on pricing and while I've bought used cars from a couple different dealers here, I didn't have to do much bargaining as the asking price was good from the start. Jason, I totally see what you mean...

    Used Saab or new VW???

I'm curious, what is it you like about Saabs? I'm still considering one, but after comparing insurance rates, the Saabs are a bit higher than the other cars I've been looking at. I'm also going to check out a Honda CR-V (I know it's kind of an apples to oranges thing). I don't know that it's...

    Used Saab or new VW???

Do they sell them in MN? It seems kinda like the Honda Element; cool, but more the height vs length thing again. To deviate slightly, why is it that only the "gen y" or whatever group these vehicles are marketed towards has a factory stereo with a mp3 player input? Lots of aftermarket gear has...

    Used Saab or new VW???

You know, I was wondering about the whole mid-grade gas thing. I've never owned a car that needed anything other than regular...getting away with the mid, 89 octane gas would certainly help.

    Used Saab or new VW???

Philip, I do read talkbass from time to time....I'm "Shoes4Industry" there... Wow, that new Volvo looks really nice, but it seems as though I would need a V70 or similar to meet my space needs. It appears as though the Saabs and the VWs have similar reliability--both "average" and...

    Used Saab or new VW???

Scott, I too like the VWs a lot....a very tough choice. If you don't mind my asking, since you're in the same area as I am, who did you buy your VW from? Good experience?

    Used Saab or new VW???

Hey, no problem. The S40 sounds nice, but too small and not available with a manual tranny, which I'd like. I need to go drive a Volvo to compare with the Saabs.

    Used Saab or new VW???

Hmm, interesting. I should probably explain why I'm looking at these cars. I need to keep the price around $20-23k and the primary criteria for this, as Andrew put it, estate car. I am a double bass player (aka string/upright) and I have to take my instrument to local concerts/rehearsals as well...

    Used Saab or new VW???

I've noticed that! I drove a 01 9-3 over the weekend that the dealer was asking just under $20k for and new, it went for nearly twice that...I really like the Saab, but I'm trying to be a *little* bit practical. I've owned a VW before and had what seems to be a typical experience: the drivetrain...

    Used Saab or new VW???

Yes, another car thread! I'm looking for a wagon to replace my 94 Accord wagon. It seems as though I'm going to have to buy a European one since Honda/Toyota don't make large enough ones. I'm sort of thinking of either a 2001/2002 Saab 9-5 or a 2003/04 Passat. I really like the Saabs, but...

A Few Words About A few words re: The Adventures of Robin Hood

I realize that this isn't about the DVD per se, but does the new restored print that's making the rounds in theaters right now have "the look" of the original or has it been "modernized"?

    Pioneer DV-563A Review

Has anyone been able to tell how this machine handles de-interlacing of non-film sources? Or improperly flagged film sources? There doesn't seem to be any way to set the output for one or the other. I haven't noticed anything awry, but I don't have another progressive machine to compare it to.

    Pioneer DV-563A Review

So far I've been pretty happy with the 563--but then again, my ES Sony receiver can't do hi-rez surround so I'm only running this thing in 2 ch mode. It also has a better picture than the interlaced Pioneer I used before. All in all, it seems like a great deal for what it costs.

    Pioneer DV-563A Review

I had the same thing happen with the remote on my Pioneer DVL-919, which I've left in the system to play LDs...I've unplugged it for now but I might just have to put tape over the IR sensor or something. It's too bad these don't have selectable remote channels like the old Sony gear used to...
