New STAR WARS film coming to theaters August 15, 2008

I was able to catch a sneak preview of Star Wars: Clone Wars on Saturday with my kids. Overall I thought the movie was fun and enjoyable on a level of matinee fare. It's not gonna win any awards but does a fine job of furthering the Star Wars universe and building the excitement for the TV show...

Dark Knight: To IMAX or not?

I know some sequences in 'Dark Knight' were filmed with IMAX cameras. Due to nature/depth of the film for a first viewing would you recommend seeing it on a big spectacle IMAX screen or a typical sized multiplex theater where it might be a slightly more intimate viewing?

    *** Official WALL-E Discussion Thread

Review/comments: Magnificent. Pixar hits another out of the ballpark and Andrew Stanton and crew deserve a Best Picture nod. The film is just mesmorizing and you can't wait to see what adventure WallE stumbles onto next. While much has been made of the eco-future/consumerism subtext and such...

Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain" set to go

Finally caught 'The Fountain' on HDDVD last night. Just a hauntingly beautiful film in look. Incredible. The score was also amazing. And Jackman and Weisz were just outstanding with the material.

    Supernatural Season 2

This point bolsters my opinion that Ellen lied to her daughter about JW as sorta a last ditch effort to get her to drop the boys/monster hunting.

PBS/TLC/History Channel shows that need DVD releases

PBS: The animated 'Liberty's Kids.' Can't think of many TV shows I'd rather watch with the kids. Positives all around.

    dark skies/project ufo?

I'd be in line for both sets. I loved how Dark Skies intertwined the UFO mythology with actually US history. It was sorta a grittier 'Taken.' Talk about conspiracy theories!

    New Scifi channel pilot "Eureka"...

Did anyone have issues with stupid wrestling (why SCIFI why!) running into the start time of Eureka the past two weeks on Tuesdays? I missed the last few minutes of each episode on my ReplayTV! :frowning:

    Liberty's Kids on dvd

I'd love to get this fantastic PBS educational series for my kids however it seems only 3 dvds (6 episodes) were released in 2004 and the DVDs are out of print and practically impossible to find. Any news on a rerelease or a box set of the 40+ episodes???

    Stargate Atlantis Season 3

Niam and his following got the short end of the stick...which is why I thought given the removal of his agressor programming and the 'self sacrifice' he made the writers would have that last shot of him floating in space showing his ascension. Woulda been a fantastic ending.

*** Official THE DESCENT Discussion Thread

My guess on the delay was in deference to last years release 'The Cave' (Sony) which was very similarly themed and resulted in a box office bomb. Though I enjoyed it on DVD.

*** Official PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: Dead Man's Chest Discussion Thread

ahh..it may be. The shot was quick and I assumed it was the same. In fact in Curse of the Black Pearl it may have been shown when Norrington captures Jack after he rescues Elizabeth firstoff.

*** Official PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: Dead Man's Chest Discussion Thread

I think there were two suggestions Beckett is much more than he appears to be: - His knowledge of the compass and its powers - His personal history/vendetta with Jack Sparrow which was made pretty clear with the visual clue of the branding iron in Becketts study and the branded "B" on...

This day and age for ABC to not air the Indy 500 in HD is just ridiculous. Same on you ABC. Fox's HD broadcast of the Coca-Cola 600 looked awesome.

    ABOMINABLE: Bigfoot with Attitude!

I thought Abominable was one of the best genre 'bigfoot' horror type movies I"ve seen in awhile. Now its not a classic but better than than that 'Sasquatch' with Lance Hendricksen. My all time fav is still 'Sasquatch: Legend of Bigfoot.' But anyway the production values were good and with some...

*** Offficial THE DA VINCI CODE Discussion Thread

Re: Controversy... Just to clarify the big outcry agains the "Da Vinci Code'" does not have to deal with Jesus being married or having a child (zero evidence to support this anyway.) It has to deal with the the book/movie claims that Christ's divinity was somehow in question till 325 AD...

Doctor Who on Sci-Fi - ongoing thread (merged)

Thought 'Father's Day' was excellent. This is the type of drama I expect from those creative writers across the pond. Although the CGI effects are stuck in the 90s (and probably a good thing as alot of shows over-rely on CGI for storytelling) the writing as with the orig Dr. Whos takes full...

    Supernatural ongoing thread

Boy this show just kicks butt. Talk about an awesome opening montage headed by Kansas' appropriately spritually themed 'Carry on Wayward Son.' I musta replayed it five times it sounded killer through my theater system. Ended with a cliffhanger but still a meaty episode. I can't wait till next...

    Sound of Thunder dvd reviews?

I know this got pretty much panned but anyone see reviews for the dvd? An interesting premise + a decent scifi/action director in Hyams should have produced something worth renting.

    Chicken Little DVD

The image definitely looked soft with my 7" CRT on a 80" wide screen. Though it was also upscaled to 1080i. Fun movie (rental IMHO) with some laugh out loud scenes. Audio seemed a bit tame in the surrounds but bass good.

Battlestar Galactica: Season 2 - SciFi US broadcast thread

Well count me in as one who doesn't like the 'reset.' As Andrew mentioned the first hour rocks and the last half hour just left me puzzled. Too much change occurs in a year to just 'blink' it by. Our characters all of a sudden are different and we have no idea why/how they got that way. They...

    Supernatural ongoing thread

What I like about the series is that they are forming a good set of 'rules' in dealing with occult/supernatural and sticking with it. What bugs me about many supernatural themed shows/movies is they are all over the place throwing history, tradition, logic and past experiences into the wind...
