Steve Great comments. Hard to imagine the Paul / Eli thing was an error. It;'s set me thinking and I'd love to heard PTA's point of view It certainly is an intimate epic that we are kept at arms length from by the character of Daniel Plainview. Great to see another agree on the score. i...
I rushed out to see this movie on it's opening afternoon in the Bay Area. I was not disappointed. Let's start off by the positives: This is big, bold and imaginative film making from a director who is not afraid to take risks. PTA has made a series of choices that are deliberately designed...
Today is a happy day. After years of waiting and posting and asking we can finally enjoy this masterwork on DVD
I got my email from Netflix, it's in the mail - cannot wait to return from my vacation from a wet and windy UK to reacquaint myself with Ken and his happy band.
Guess I need to...
Sad news
According to the Digital Bits, Warner has postponed the HD discs until they better understand demand.
Disppointing for sure. But I'm so happy to be able to watch the DVD anyway. I no longer buy discs so the double dip thing is irrelevent.
Rob
Thanks Mark This is something of a technological tragedy. You would have to believe that after the stupidities of high end audio formats someone would have learned, but nothing. Ultimately, any format in technology has a window of time to launch, grow, establish itself and then decline. So...
Interesting thread I guess that I was a prime target of the high definition DVD brands. I've spent a small fortune on home theater of the years and currently have the Pearl projecting onto a 10 foot Hi Power But I too have resisted buying into a format. Over the last year I bought a...
Mark
I never noticed your signature ebfore
These two Terence Davies films are amongst my faves.
I campaigned for ages for The Big Blue and then for Hamlet and was thinking of Distant Voices, Still Lives as the next effort.
You may be intereseted to know that in the Uk, Distant Voices just...
Darrell,
No need for that. Since the format started I have fought two crusade. The Big Blue and now this.
The true champions are Ron and his team for keeping forums like this going that enablke our views to appear in front of the studios. Twenty years ago it was all so different.
I simply...
I started this thread several years ago.....
This has been a long time coming and a seeming endless session of posts and asks.
IMHO this release is all and more than we could ever have hoped for.
Thanks again to Warners

A few thought I was going to sit it out However, two things happened 1) Toshiba started almost giving away that junk 1st gen low end player 2) Netflix started renting HD DVD So for less than $300 I have a regulalr supply of HD movies in my theater at no real cost. My experience...
The problem with the upgrade path at the moment is that everything is moving scarily quiclkly on the display front.
You should strat a new thread in another part of this forum
Another great resource is at AVS
Good luck
Rob
By the way, I've had my sig for years and now really can dream in HD of Branagh's Hamlet. Sorry for the gushings, but it's been a long 6/7 years waiting for this moment.
Rob

I tried yo every time and missed out and was getting desperate as the clock ticked by
I then posted my post and realized there was a typo, so redid it and you beat me to it :-)
I'm just glad you asked and even happier that this long wait is at last over.
For some people, they will...
As I started this thread about five years ago let me announce the joyous news
From Warner's on the chat tonight
Hamlet this summer in SD, HD DVD and Blu Ray
Rejoice, this is a great day!
Rob
We are still speculating. We've been doing it for 5 years or so.
However, I'm once again encouraged that The Digital Bits thinks that Hamlet will be part of the news within the chat on the 26th,
Can someone please ask WQarners about this.
I'll try but never seem to be around.
Can you...
Here we are ending 2006 with still no news.
What the hell, by govenrnment statistics I'm not due to die for another 30 years so I should get lucky
Who knows what format though :-)
Rob
I dunno I paid $299 for my HD DVD player and am currently watching a glorious projected image from a Sony Pearl on a 120" screen The disc came from Netflix and I have about 20 title in my queue to follow I really don't care who wins the "war" I'm just enjoyinmg HD and will buy a PS3...
I don't believe that any single movie can end the "war". I also think that we are an unrepresentative group to think we can influence it For example. I have a high end audio system, Sony Pearl, Hi Power 120" screen..... What %age have this. Not many My point is that our views are...

Have to agree
We've been waiting for years so i guess as long as it's a decent print and anamorphic... :-)
Warner's hold the rights though, so we should be OK
Rob
In celebration of this thread being nearly five years old.
I'm patient :-)
Bill Hunt on Digital Bits has announced that he's spoken with Warners and they have completed the telecine for a release in 2007. Now work is underway on SE content.
Whilst this is good news we've been hearing...
Thanks Gordon. I feared as much. Year after year this keeps slipping. Oh well, I'm sure there will be another 100 titles of dross released each week in between.
Wouldn't it be nice if they released this in HD. It would probably be the kicker for me to take the plunge and buy a machine.
Rob
I posted this thread because I really believe that the studios and hardware manufacturers have made a terrible mess of the new format. Of course there are some great titles. I simply believe that the future involves me downloading movies at $5 a shot and not collecting boxes of plastic...
Having bought close to 1000 DVDs, 300 Laserdiscs and 100 VHS I have decided to skip a format In case you think I'm a newbie I'm not. I have a high end projetor set up involving JVC SX21 and anamorphic lens onto Da-Lite Power 120" screen and a fuu range 7.1 speaker system backed up by 2 REL...
Can I play contrarian for a moment. I collected movies in VHS, LD and most recently 800 DVD's. I have just decided to sell my DVD collection. The reality is that as a Netflix subscriber and now with HD from cable and satellite I watch old DVD's rarely. I strongly believe that the high...
