It makes the PS3 "game console" price less obnoxius but certainly no bargain. How is it a "kick in the balls" if you're a 360 owner and want a cheap entry into HD-DVD now? Even if you're not a 360 owner but considering a 360 this xmas (for Halo or 360 exclusive games coming out next year) the...
Nope. Bluray has countermeasures such as BD+ (revokable license) and ROM Mark on top of AACS what is interesting in this article is Maureen Weber from HP did a 180-degree% about face :) ... http://www.physorg.com/news5725.html The Blu-ray Disc content management system includes three...
IMHO those are lame titles for a launch. it looks like the OP is a Fox viral marketer too judging by posts i just read in the BD owners forum. what gives?
The studios that proclaim to want "extras" (ie BD50) really want BD+ security (Fox/Disney) first and foremost. They are using "space" as a selling point to future customers because it's very hard to sell customers on concepts like "we can revoke your player". Sony just wants the royalties and...
I've never been impressed either until now. I had (well still have... didn't put it on ebay yet) the Zenith 318 upscaler and HTPC... neither did much for SD DVD really (H78DC3 720p PJ). It just was blah and looked marginally better than feeding it 480p from the same or different source (xbox...
enjoy the new HDTV. bummer you couldn't find a short-throw PJ. i think when you see HD-DVD on that in all it's glory some of those old DVD transfers are going to hurt your eyes! But OTOH some of the better mastered DVDs will look real good! :)
If you're adamant about purchasing optical discs (and don't have an HDTV) then yes the Tosh can output via s-video. Don't know about the Samsung. You wouldn't want to buy any current bluray software anyways so that is a moot point. I'd buy the HDTV/PJ first myself.
for sure.... but did we ever stop to honestly think about what brings more happiness... buying and owning shelves of DVDs or just simply watching movies (even in HD!). Nowadays we can just watch the movies :) It's not the laserdisc era where watching an OAR copy was a chore. Ron, is there...
LOL. But people paying for booze/ciggys are actually getting USE out of what they're paying for. Not dust collectors. Who said videophiles have to "buy"? It's not 1997 and VHS lining blockbuster's shelves. I'm aware of that as i recall when this site was formed... but times change. It's...
why do you guys buy EVERY title still? $20 for a movie that you probably won't watch again for a few years if ever. Even local blockbuster rental is a better bargain. I just got rid of hundreds of DVDs that were collecting dust. I can netflix the "restored version" when i want to rewatch.
why would you be "forced" to buy anything on SD? netflix or rental is your friend. ps - insiders already said VfV from WB being made, released this year
again i'm saying this is done long before the opening credits role. we all have remotes which we have memorized the "menu" button... we understand it's a pet peeve of yours but it's an authoring issue chosen by the studio. i really like it.
some people complain water is too wet. serious film watcher was saying they just want the movie to start. pressing a button upon boot is a non-issue. it's not like you can't change audio until after the credits roll.
Ron's review is not really applicable to most titles. but it's not that hard to press the MENU button as all the intro screens appear and change things. it's not like the "movie" starts immediately (ie. most laserdiscs).
PQ is mindboggling, menu is awesome and Netflix has a few dozen available with more coming each week. Overall this is the best DVD player i've ever owned and it also plays HD-DVDs :)
jim - if you have 100 continental airlines miles you're about $30 away from $350 (see bargain sites). cobbled hackjob PC is irrelevant... this really is a nice unit. the only "bad taste" is probalby people who can't afford the $500 entry fee. upscales dvd GREAT (among the best i've seen and...
to anyone who hasn't updated yet... when updating firmware, the front panel display shows what % completion so there is little reason for concern unless it gets stuck for a long while. (expect it to take alot longer than 30 min.)
Ugh... you want 007/Brosnan to look like some 'roid rage WWF wrassler? Gimme a break. He needs to come back for the last one unless they fire the rest of the supporting cast and by all reports Dench, etc. are signed long ago.
Aaron, I hear you... i think as time passes by the notion of collecting movies gets less important to most people. Hollywood will have a tough (if not impossible time) replicating sales of DVD with BRD even if HD-DVD disappears tomorrow. I've got dozens and dozens of unopened DVDs... many are in...
Why would anyone be "proud" of Bluray (or HD-DVD) unless they're getting HUGE ROYALTIES? I know you probably didn't mean this literally - you're a BRD zealot and also a knowlegable guy - but this type of statement makes me ROTFLMAO. Both systems are a fiasco compared to DVD and offer little...
