I got mine from eBay. It was released in India last week. 3D is medium throughout, and the movie itself is okay (a B-), but a decent framily-friendly, old fashioned story. Audio is DTS-HRA 7.1 (vs. MA), but nonetheless excellent. I have a Yamaha 3050, so upscaled to 11.2 via Neural:X and it...
Is it worth getting all movies? Perhaps this has been addressed already, but I'm guessing something newer like 'The World is Not Enough' Lowry version isn't much of an upgrade from the SE version? I understand the difference is drastic, as I can see from screenshots, for something like 'Goldfinger'.
We may never get our three freebies. People on AVS are reporting of Toshiba claiming they're not on their system when they call in. Toshiba instructed them to re-submit their rebate request to a different address. I hate rebates & don't count on them anymore. Just look for the best deal w/o...
Agreed. But, you can at least save bookmarks on several HD-DVDs, especially Warner's. The bookmarks are still there when you stop or take out the disc & re-insert it later.
My A1 does resume play with my homemade HD DVDs (using regular DVD blanks). I think the lack of resume play has to do w/the authoring of commercial HD DVDs to date.
Nero image file available via this link, but I'm afraid to try it. Should wait until the end of the day or tomorrow to see if this update is the same as the yet-to-be-released official.
Paul, I got it working as well. I had to set my receiver's crossover at 80Hz, which is the THX 'small speaker' recommended setting. Then, I used Pete's settings on my HD-A1. Now, I have decent LFE. Still, when using 5.1 analog, the receiver's volume level must be turned up quite a bit more than...
Thanks Paul. What I was trying to say w/the latter was...should I be able to hear the HD-A1's test-tones out of the sub? Or, do I just assume it's okay w/Pete's settings w/o bothering w/test-tones and simply pop-in an actual disc to verify the LFE is indeed working? In any case, I'll have to do...
My receiver is the Pioneer VSX-1015TX. With its test-tones & a SPL meter, I've calibrated the sound to where it should be. Test-tones can be heard from all channels, including the sub. However, when I follow Pete's steps, I still don't get the HD-A1 generated test-tone out of the sub, only...
Here are a few I'd recommend: Dil Se The story is okay, but the songs, cinematography & 5.1 mix are terrific. Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge Hugely popular flick that's a lot of fun. Songs are very catchy. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam So-so story again, but songs & cinematography are...
I'd have to disagree. Upscaling DVD players like the Momitsu V880 (which I have), Zenith DVB318 & the new Denons do a noticeably better job than the budget/midrange projectors' own internal deinterlacers. I have the Panny PT-AE500U hi-def projector, which is comparable to the Sanyo PLV-Z2...
Best: Clint Eastwood (he's never been better); Quentin Tarantino Runners-up: Steven Spielberg; the Coen brothers Most overrated: Martin Scorsese (my fav until 'Goodfellas')
The new hi-def digital boxes (like the 6200 & 6208) have to take the analog signal on SD channels & digitize them. If you're using component out, it's going from analog-to-digital-to-analog. With satellite, SD channels remain digital/MPEG2.
I've read some people talk about the Momitsu V880, so here's my review comparing it to the Zenith DVB318... I spent about 3 hours evaluating my new Zenith DVB318 last night, comparing it to my Momitsu V880 (which I've now had for a few months). I first applied the regionfree hack to the...
