They didn't come on by default with my HTPC either. I had to turn subtitles on, then back off and they worked fine after that without having subtitles on constantly.

As far as the TV goes, I have the 32" - KV32FS12, and it does the squeeze via the menu. It was the selling point for this set. If he has an older Wega, it may only be possible through the service menu, yuck. Definitely check, it's a great feature.

Actually, Charbel's 75 dial reading doesn't mean much of anything other than a benchmark. He's referring to what the volume is set to.

From reading a lot of threads on this topic, I think the concept of reference level is misrepresented. I don't think that movie theaters deliver 115dB to the seat. I believe that is what they put out near-field, but due to the large space of the theater, what you hear is a substantially lower...

It's marketing hype. How are you supposed to transport MP3 over a coax connection? MP3s are binary data not mystical electrical impulses that can just be sent out. It has as much MP3 decoding as my parent's 1970 Marantz receiver.

The braiding method takes a LOT of time, especially for longer runs. I've been working on a set off and on for a while, and have gotten unbelievably fast with braiding. They are a pain to work with as well, I need 12 foot runs, so I'm working with 18 foot of wire, and basically have to unbraid...
