I find it so odd that 10 - 15 years ago, discrete audio was the way to go on DVD for pre-Dolby stereo titles, and now Kino is back to ancient 2.0 mixdowns from the days of LaserDisc and VHS. Huge step forward for image quality, but step back for sound, especially when the 4.0 or 5.1 mixes exist...
Kino have an amazing list of titles, but alas they do not seem to understand (or maybe care about) pre-Dolby stereo sound. So far, pretty much everything released in 4-track or 6-track magnetic stereo in theaters has been released in 2.0 mixdowns on Kino bluray. This includes Compulsion, Daddy...

No, there was only one release of Hindenburg on dvd, from Universal about 10 years ago. And a poor release it was... Robert Wise must have been thoroughly unimpressed!I never bought the dvd either because I too though the LD looked better. And it had the trailer.
The 2.0 mix on the Hindenburg DVD is not the original either, it is a stereo downmix of the original 6-track mix that was used on 70mm prints.
A 5.1 lossless mix would sound closer to the original than 2.0.
If pre-Dolby magnetic-stereo films such as South Pacific and The Robe were coming out...
Yes, what a horrible transfer! And both edges of the 2.35 frame are missing. Looks more like 2:00 or slightly under. The 2.0 surround sound isn't that bad, so imagine in 5.1 lossless...I would buy this on bluray in a second.
According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damnation_Alley_%28film%29 "Anchor Bay Entertainment had been planning a release for three years, but the DVD rights were taken back by 20th Century Fox, who is currently working on the official DVD release." I hope it won't take Fox as long to...
Ron E is absolutely right and that is exactly what I am hoping for. A sequel is probably the best (and maybe the only) thing to generate some interest (especially at MGM) in the original. There are special edition DVDs out there that might not have happened if it were not for a sequel / remake...
TV: Bionic Woman Eight is Enough Golden Palace The Ropers Six Million Dollar Man MOVIES: The Big Circus Good Morning Miss Dove Who's Minding the Store? (Jerry Lewis) Scavenger Hunt Star Wars (original '77 version, 16x9) ...Why did I even write this?! LOL
Has anyone else heard about the plans for a sequel?

Hi, I also recommend the Panasonic mentionned above. I love everything about it! But the reason I am writting is to say that I now regret not getting the 50 inch... At first I though 42 was huge, but now I find it kind of small. Depending on the size of your room, go for the 50 if you can...
Question: Is there a way to avoid 'burn in' on a Plasma TV? I've had mine for about 3 weeks and I noticed a faint burn in while a DVD was paused on a totaly black scene during a fade out. I always watch regular TV in 4x3 mode, ...or used to since noticing the burn in. I pulled out the...
Hurray! TPA finally in true-stereo on DVD! Check out this review: http://dvdmg.com/poseidonadventurese.shtml It looks like Fox finally tracked down the old 2.0 mix-down. It's not 4.0, but unless someone discovers an old stereo print of the film in a vault or in a private collection, this...
