    scalers

I'm not familiar with the scaler in the runco, but there is a new model out from DVDO called the iScan Ultra HD that costs $1499 new and is getting rave reviews. There are some detailed threads on this on AVS Forum.

    Receiver to replace separates system

Hmm... I noticed from the B&K website that there is also an AVR505. Basically the same thing as the 507 but with 5 channels instead of 7. This would be all I need. Is the 505 hard to find? There aren't any currently listed on A'gon.

    Receiver to replace separates system

I have so many suggestions now, I'm going to have to make a spread sheet to keep track of them :) I talked with a local dealer last night who I trust and have done a lot of business with in the past and he recommended a Yamaha that he carries. I was kind of wondering if B&K had...

    Receiver to replace separates system

How do the feature sets of the older models compare to the new ones? Are the DAC's the same? How about the ampliphier sections? I certainly like the idea of picking up a good used one. I've gone that way with a lot of my stuff to my own financial and sonic benefit:)

CD Changer recommendations -- must have a COAX digital output

I have a Pioneer Elite. Can't remember the model #. It has Coax out. I use the digital out to my pre/pro so I can't comment on the DAC's in the changer, but it sounds very good the way I use it. It was around $450 new.

    Receiver to replace separates system

I checked out the Marantz website and it looks like my local Tweeter carries their products. Not a store I go to much. I'll probably do a Marantz, Denon, Integra, Pioneer comparison.

    Receiver to replace separates system

I've never heard the Marantz or NAD. The local dealers I usually go to must not carry them. I'll have to look around for a dealer. Do you know which of the big chains carry them?

    Musical Fidelity X10D

So the X10D is a 2ch analog tube preamp? Then you are mainly comparing it to whatever preamp you are using for your DVD player (assuming you are using the analog output of your DVD player). I still think the biggest difference in the sound for CD's between a DVD player and a CD player comes...

    Receiver to replace separates system

Cutting down on the boxes is a goal, so I'm pretty set on a receiver. (It will also help to deflect the Wife criticism due to all of the boxes in my theater set-up) I'm not at all familiar with Marantz or NAD receivers. I'm vaquely familiar with Integra (there is a new one out right?), Denon...

    Musical Fidelity X10D

Wilborn, I'm not familiar with that Musical Fidelity piece, but from your question, I'm guessing that it is an outboard DAC? If so, then the answer to your question is a big depends... On how good the cd player and it's DAC's are vs. the quality of the transport in the DVD player and the...

Things I wish I would have done differently in my project

I would have done a few things differently. 1) Designed in some sort of hush box for my projector. It's mounted on the ceiling and while not too loud, I sometimes find the fan noise distracting. 2) Run DVI cable to the projector. When I finally get around to doing this it is going to be...

    Receiver to replace separates system

Having completed the contruction of a theater in my basement about 9 months ago, I now have two theater systems in my house. The main one in the theater is a full-blown audiophile system. The second one in my family room is also very good, but the kind of use it gets now really makes some of the...

    B&W Nautilus Speakers - Which One's

If I could have floorstanders as my rears, you bet my a@# I would (mostly for music). Unfortunately, there is no way I could talk my wife into that one. I also have small kids and it just wouldn't work in my room. The 802's upfront with your existing 803's as rears, sounds like a great set-up.

Any thoughts on Triad in-wall speakers?

It's been a while, but I listened to the bronze and gold LCR versions. As I recall, there certainly was a difference, but I was considering them for surround use to match up with other speakers, so at the time I really didn't think it would be worthwhile to step up to the golds. (In the end, I...
