Well Alliance has done a good number of Canada-only releases in the last year. This looks like another. I read that maybe Weinstein owns the rights in the US and they've pretty much given up on Blu-ray so likely won't come out there until they sell the rights to their titles someday. Although...

I watched this today and personally I really thought the detail was really lacking especially for such a recent release. I have not seen this on DVD in a long time but has anyone compared it to see how much of an improvemnet it is in this area? I would rate it as one of the lowest detailed...

Yeah I PVR'ed it off there a few weeks back and think it looks pretty good. Hopefully we'll see it on Blu-ray soon.

It is interesting but i don't see details on the video quality. If it's just SD Divx files then it doesn't relate much to hi-def.

I'll accept that there are likely problems with this particular release but how many Blu-rays have you tagged as ruined and terrible and how many of those do you think that people actually were fine with when watching them in person?

I think it is very likely that Blu-ray will be the last disc-based format for mainstream movie distribution.

Blu-ray is certainly a tough sell in the times of this global recession. I'm sure the studios expected things to move much faster. It will be very interesting to see how it goes as most countries in the world start coming out of the recession later this year or early next. This is why I think...

Have you noticed the ratios of Blu-ray sales on action type movies to other types? There is no point hijacking this thread over this - that is just my opinion. We'll see if i'm wrong when it comes out on Blu-ray.

Well what I was saying is that it isn't the type of movie that is likely to sell near as well on Blu-ray as Braveheart and Gladiator, or other action/sci-fi movies. We'll see how it goes though when it comes out.

In my own opinion, Blu-ray is slowly taking over and in a few years using some type of forced obsolesence by the studios it will prevail. Whether this means them putting DVD releases out later than Blu-ray, leaving DVD's as bare bones releases, or some other method they will do it.

I'd love to see any catalog title selling well so they can release so many more. We'll have to wait and see though.

I suspect Forrest Gump will not sell very well (compared to Braveheart and Gladiator and other similar action based catalog titles) on Blu-ray so I doubt they'll put huge amounts of effort or new money into its release.

I agree the studios should at least port over old extras - there isn't much excuse not too unless they're adding new extras which are better. That being said I personally care very, very little about extras. I just want the movie in all it's glory with great AQ and PQ. I would much rather spend...
