You've already optimized your speaker placement right? You'd be amazed what proper placement can do. If you haven't, I'd do that before building any panels Speaker placement http://www.soundstage.com/audiohell/audiohell200111.htm http://www.cardas.com/cgi-bin/main_c...ing=Room+Setup Lots...
Mike has some good links there :) Was kinda surprised to see my page listed...glad someone thinks it's useful. It really depends on your room...do you need absorbtion or diffusion? That makes a big difference in what you will build.
You want to make sure your speaker placement is as good as you can get before adding room treatments. Have you been to this site? http://www.acoustics101.com/ There is a lot of good info here too http://www.harman.com/wp/index.jsp?articleId=120
Jones, The fiberglass batts have a paper backing on them, so putting any dacron behind wouldn't do much good. I basically followed Thomas' directions except that I used burlap instead of muslin.
Sreeni, they sound better than they look :D
The center is mounted above the screen, it's all black so it's hard to see.
Hopefully sometime this summer I will getting a center that matches the "klones" :)
If you are really interested in them, Tom has the construction process on the web...
Rick,
If you want to tame the first reflection point, use a mirror.
You will need a helper.
Sit in the primary listening position and have your helper move the mirror along the wall until you see your speaker.
That it where you would place a sound absorbing panel to tame the first...
