A Few Words About A few words about...™ Night of / Curse of the Demon -- in Blu-ray

Comparing the capsaholic screen caps, the Indicator versions look somewhat blurry in comparison to the French BR. The 1.75:1 in particular doesn't look much sharper than a DVD. I don't know know if this difference in sharpness is due to the difference in the prints used for the transfers or...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ A Man for All Seasons -- in Blu-ray

I agree. While some scenes look just a bit flat and thick - which may have been the intended look, I don't know - others look like bad day-for-night photography. I'm betting there will be a remastered Blu-Ray released at some point. There are unfortunately lots of Blu-Rays that would appear to...

Where do we go from here? Life after disk media...

Netflix and YouTube videos are highly compressed and they sometimes skip or hang.

Hammer Horror and Special Effects Collections- coming from Warner 10/6/2015

I for one find it hard going back to a DVD after watching a number of films in a row on Blu-Ray. The digital compression is so much more obvious and annoying with a DVD. The haloing, aliasing, and pixelation stick out like a sore thumb.

your Twilight Time / Columbia wishlist?

I have a new high end Oppo player, a region-free Sony player, and a high end, large screen Samsung LCD. Most of the DVDs I own look fairly bad regardless of how I tweak the settings of this equipment. DVDs of 80s films often look particularly bad, but that may be due to the age of the transfers...

your Twilight Time / Columbia wishlist?

My TT Columbia wishlist is..... That's right. My wishlist is empty. This is because I want to update most of my DVD collection to Blu-Ray. and TT 's pricing and limited runs are making that difficult or impossible. Let's face it, most DVDs look like garbage upconverted on a large HDTV...

A PEEK AT JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH REDUX

There must be a lot of faded negatives out there, given the number of Blu-Rays that suffer from "crushed blacks." The JTTCOTE remaster is nowhere near the worst in that regard, and in fact there are any number of Blu-Rays of later films that have it much worse.

A PEEK AT JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH REDUX

Haloing is indicative of digital compression, and so the transfer either has a low bit rate or else it was an upconversion from some lower resolution.

    Rollerball (1975) ?

The only TT title I've had a problem with so far is JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH. I'm sure ROLLERBALL won't look that soft.

    TWILIGHT RELEASES LACK OF INTEREST

My problem is the limited availability aspect of the TT model moreso than price. As I mentioned earlier, I've been able to acquire most or all of the Criterion Collection DVDs/Blu-Rays I wanted by spreading my purchases out over the last 15 years. With respect to catalog titles, I feel the...

    TWILIGHT RELEASES LACK OF INTEREST

This latter point is really the source of my complaints and my greatest fear about TT. Some of their latest releases make it look like they're set to start releasing large numbers of catalog titles, and if that happens, a lot of film fans are going to be left out in the cold. There is no way...

    TWILIGHT RELEASES LACK OF INTEREST

I think I have just as much right to complain about TT's pricing and limited availability model as you do to defend the company. For what it's worth, I don't "collect" DVDs and Blu-Rays of films just to own them. I collect these discs because I'm a film fan and the vast majority of the films I...

    TWILIGHT RELEASES LACK OF INTEREST

TT is actually making things impossible for collectors with a limited income, which is why I don't like TT. Many of their releases are important titles in my DVD collection that I would like to upgrade to Blu-Ray, but the output of this company has now accelerated to the point that I've more or...

    TWILIGHT RELEASES LACK OF INTEREST

Whether or a not an older film will benefit from Blu-Ray depends entirely on the print used for the transfer. I have a number of Blu-Rays of older films where the upgrade from the DVD actually isn't all that noticeable. While there might be isolated scenes on these Blu-Rays where the image pops...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Vendors, film piracy and national security

Sorry, I just don't buy that argument. On the one hand, the freeloaders who find an illegal copy of your work would almost certainly not otherwise purchase the Blu-Ray, and so their activities will have little or no effect on your actual profits. On the other hand, the vast majority of fans of...
