Out of curiosity (and temporarily disregarding the furnace's influence for a moment) can you examine your TOSLINK cables for any cuts in the sheathing that would let light in?
I agree with AaronJB, the DS-TP370 would look to be the best choice because of it's overall power being so much greater than the other 2 units. Since you curently have a DVD player that works, I would use the money you had budgeted for a HT system on components you DON'T have yet.
Oh, welcome...
Wow Ron! I know you've heard this a hundreds of time already, but... GREAT REVIEW! Very comprehensive and thorough! Thanks for taking the time to do a fantastic job.

After reading this thread, I tend to agree that the equipment is fine and that it's the room. Javier, I saw where you mentioned that you had a minimalist system with just the speakers, amp and CD player. Is there another room in the house perhaps with different wall covering and floor covering...
It's been my experience that about 2' above ear level to the sides of the listening position worked out best (for my dipoles). After considering using stands, I finally had to run the wires down the wall from the attic and wall-mount the surrounds. In most cases, this does take a bit of work...

Just a note to anyone using some of the sorbothane or other gel products. If you use them on a wood surface, use something to protect the surface from the oily substances in the sorbothane!
I had used a set of the AudioQuest sorbothane pads underneath a turntable of mine for quite some time and...
Steve,
Thanks for the reply! A friend of mine gave me the same opinion on the Toshiba's stretch modes. I'll try to go take another look at one.
While I was out shopping this evening, I saw a Sony 57XBR2 at two different retailers.

I never really considered the...
Upgrade-itis has now possessed me and I would now like to replace my 36" direct-view Toshiba with a 16:9 HD RPTV of some sort.
I've been over to the other "Spot" to read comments in the Manufacturer's sections, but it's hard to get a good opinion on the different brands I'm considering as...
