I found some "soft" foam at work. Yay! So does it matter how thick the foam is? The piece I have right now is about 1 1/4 inh thick.

Hmm...I checked walmart and two local craft stores and none of them have open cell foam. Walmart just have polyfill in bags and as mattress pads. Why is it so hard to locate something like this? lol. Maybe I should just order from partsexpress but thought I might be able to save on shipping...

By leaving the port unobstructed, do you mean that there is an opening from the woofer to the port or that no polyfill in the port? Thanks.

Joey, Thanks for the dimension and the encouragement. I am not very good with my hands but for some reason, I keep coming back to building speakers despite my aweful skills. It is addicting hehe. At least I am improving somewhat.

Right now I think I am going with the peerless. It seems to be a good combo of volume, power handling, small cab and decent bass. The Tangbang has a spike in the impedance that that forces me to tune higher than I want to. With the Peerless I can go with a 20L box tuned to 27Hz. The driver...
