Zenith (!) and Pioneer announce SACD players!

Ultimate Electronics gave me an approximate date of August 8 for the Pioneer 563a. That is slipped a month from about 7/2. Best Buy has space and a price tag on their shelf ($179) but are not saying when it will be in. The lack of any press on this, and the complete absence of info on the...

Velodyne Subs, Which Do I Buy

I used to have a CT-120, and it did a nice job. I upgraded to an SVS 20-39PC and it does a great job. If you're looking at Velodyne because of the form factor, you might consider a good used servo-based model (which the CT series are not). They will give some serious woofage, plus be accurate...

    cooling fan power source

Also, be certain you are buying at least a 110v AC fan. Many of them are low voltage, to be used in PCs or other applications. Sometimes people will buy a 220v fan so that it runs slower (read quieter) when plugged into 110v. Doug

Non-factory Warranty Discounters, what's the deal?

The answers depend on the credibility of the company you are buying from. Assuming they are a reputable outfit.. 1) They buy inventory overstocks from authorized dealers, in many cases. The dealers will over-order to get a price break from the manufacturer, then sell off the rest to these...

Trade my NHT's for Klipsch or am I nuts? (Low-Buck)

Colin - I'm a horn fan, and have several pairs of Klipsch. I like the live sound of them. I believe the current model in the price range you are looking at is the SB-2 or maybe the SB-3 (on a stretch), if you buy from someplace like www.acousticsounddesign.com or www.sounddistributors.com. Doug

This Is My SetUp, These are my features, Open it up...where are my speakers?

Jay - That Pio is a great unit, but if I may suggest... I'd scale back on the receiver (like maybe cut that budget by $1000-1500) and put the money towards speakers. Speaker investment will give you, by far (IMHO) the biggest impact for your dollar. Doug

    My search for mains

I'll toss in one you didn't list, just for fun :) Klipsch RB-5 bookshelf's for mains. RC-3 for center. RS-3 for surrounds. SVS 20-39CS or 20-39PCi for sub. If you buy from a place like Link Removed or www.acousticsounddesign.com you can get all this for just about $2k, I believe. I...

    Best Mains For Under $1200

Klipsch RF-3 (floor) or RB-5 (bookshelf). If you are OK with buying from a "good" unauthorized dealer, you can fit these into your budget. SVS 25-31 or 20-39PCi subwoofer, with either choice. For HT, you're going to want a sub. Doug

    FS: SVS Driver - Original

Hi Mark - You can typically go to the carrier of your choice (www.ups.com www.fedex.com) and figure the rates with their on-line tool. I'd prefer to let YOU do that, so you are in control of the variable information (insurance, residential delivery, ground/air/etc...). I can drop it at...

    FS: SVS Driver - Original

EDIT: SOLD Gee, I can just copy someone else's ad :) "Yep... here's another one for sale... I just upgraded my driver to the new ISD so I have the original. It's in perfect condition, I just wanted to upgrade. " I have pictures, if you want. $40 + shipping. Buyer pays for what...

I Need Some Opinions On Klipsch RC-7 Center Channel.

Al - You COULD put the Heresy on the floor -- the riser base angles it up towards you so it should sound pretty good, if you have space under or in front of the TV. Doug

SVS PCi driver upgrade worth it?

I don't believe the new amp will fit in the non-i versions of the PC. Looking at the pix, they are very different shapes. Link Removed Doug

Difference between Yamaha HTR and RX-V line

My understanding is that the RXV line is for the "boutique" or specialty stores and the HTR line is for mass retailers. They are virtually the same except for cosmetic differences. Possibly a warranty difference, but I don't think so. Denon does the same thing, BTW. Doug

Need help adding third set of speakers

Aubrey - I am doing something similar to you for music throughout the house. I have one system dedicated to my HT/music room, and I am using a separate receiver to drive the "house" speakers (a mid-80's NAD -- it's built like a tank and puts out strong, clean power). I am driving 6 pairs of...
